runforyourlife 361
They can charge it, because they know they have you over a barrel. If someone tows your car away, they can charge what they like for you to get it back. Reason, they have something you cherish, like your vet with your pet.... Simple thing is, get the pet insurance, thats what it is there for, so these bas,....s cant have your money! Who are you going to get your insurance with pal, i know a cracker, and they insure working dogs! Cheaper than any other company insuring normal dogs...

shepp 2,285
It's getting to the stage where nobody will be able to afford to own a dog without medical insurance because the vets have upped there prices so much. It's emotional blackmail and all that will happen is people will treat the dog themselves with meds off the not. If you own a few dogs then insurance can be out of the question for many people. In my experiance a lot of the vets are'nt all that great, especially on minor alements, you are better off researching the problem yourself.

shepp 2,285
If it was me then for 8 quid i would probably go back for the checkup, if it was 20 then i would take a look at it and decide myself. I took my dog to the vets a last week with allergy problems and he gave me antibiotics, piriton and shampoo, charged 75 quid and i was no wiser than when i walked in the door. Shampoo was 20 quid, which i gave back straight away and got a refund. I think you must always bear in mind they will milk the feck out of your problem to line there own pockets, so reasearch and common sence are the only way to save your hard earned cash. fin and fur 2
It does seem as suggested that it is now becoming almost too expensive to own a Dog, or any pet for that matter without getting some form of vetinary insurance. You know things are getting bad when most of the Supermarket chains start offering pet insurance. As to why vets charge so much, god only knows, but they can get away with it, there must be many people who have persued a career in dentistry or medicine, who, looking at the money vets get must have thought that they have gone down the wrong career path.
