glass22 0
Ok lol... I whent down and had 0 rabbits!!! I don't get it, the snare wires have not been moved or pushed or anything. It did rain all night, would that of stopped them coming out? or are they smelling the snare? I'm setting the snares 6.5 inches at the bottom of the loop, is this correct? Quote Link to post
salukiwhippet 6
What sort of wires are they? Really wet horrible weather will tend to keep rabbits at home more, some will still feed though. 6.5" is a good starting set height, in long grass, especially long wet grass, you will need to lift 'em up. I would expect some pulled snares though if they're in the right place but set too low. Keep at it chap, you'll get there! Maybe a few pics would help us give more specific advise. gamocfxroyal 0
Total noob questions 1. Do the snares kill the rabbits or do I do that when I go back? 2. Best time to set them? dusk till dawn, or dawn till dusk? 3. How high from the ground should the snares be? 4. What non targetted animals am I likely to catch/hurt? 5. Where sells snares? I've seen a few sites but can't remember them(I dont want to make my own). Thanks. snares do not kill the rabbits, it only catches them in place untill you go there to despatche it, sometimes the snares can kill the animal you can set them at any time as long as you check them every 24 hours if you see a run then set the snare in the best place, like by a fence, look at the run and imagen the rabbit coming through the run and how it will go into the snare. the non targated animals you can catch is a badger, before stting the snare make sure you look for clues(catched hair on the fence) if it's a badgers hair do not set the snare as that could ba e badger run you can get snares off ebay quite cheap Quote Link to post
clabstar 2
i dont no much about snaring but wood he not benafit watching the rabbits from a distance or even sit and wait then see what runs they are useing? only a idea Quote Link to post
glass22 0
Ok, I've been again tonight and still no rabbits... I'm going to explane what I'm doing and maybe someone wil see where I'm going wrong. The field is like mowed grass surrounded on one side by thisles, and the other three by long grass. In both the long grass and thisels you can clearly see rabbits runs, I've been pegging them into the grass and then putting the silver thing that holds the wire next to the run so the loop is over the center of the run at about 6.5 inches high at the bottom of the loop. I've set some deep in the grass and some just inside the long grass/thisels. The wire never seems to of been touched or pushed out of the way. Could the snares be too high? Thanks Quote Link to post
Guest hyperion
I whent up today at 8pm and set 20 snares, I'll go back tommorow around 10am and see what I have. How do you guys dispose of the rabbit once dead? eat it! thats what rabbits are for! cheers hyperion Quote Link to post
salukiwhippet 6
Where on the runs are you setting them? The loop wants to be over the middle of a small beat. I doubt they're too high, unless most of the bunnies are very small ones. How big are the snare loops? And the silver thing that holds the wire is the 'tealer' James Quote Link to post
