whippet 99 2,613
about 30 years ago i was walking the dogs down to a lane i used regular. there was a house at the top of the lane as i aproached the top of the lane i let the dog off the lead. i saw the owner of the house sitting on a chair enjoying the summer sun. what i didnt see was his cat sitting by the side of him. with cat dead in his jaws and a perfect retrieve the dog dropped it by my feet. i never ran so fast in my life. never used that route again to walk the dogs. back to basics for that dog too.retrieving to hand is a must.should have told the dog to sit, threw the cat again then sent your dog for the retrieve then and ONLY then should you have run like fu*k!! a mates terrier a few years ago chased a cat through a cat flap and killed it in the owners kitchen, luckily the owners were not home. good enough Quote Link to post
Guest anonymous
Took my dogs out last night on my usual walk through the woods on the dog walk route. If i cant see anyone with other dogs i like to let mine off for a sniff in the bushes and hopefully they empty themselves in the nettles so i cant pick it up Anyway, i had the pup still off the lead and he was slightly behind me in the bushes when i heard two women shouting 'DROP IT'...i ran back to find the pup had someones pet rabbit in his mouth...already dead!! I was gob smacked..this rabbit and one other had escaped from one of the back gardens that are behind the bushes and trees...and the two women who were neihgbours of the people who owned the rabbits were trying to catch them when my pup turned up. I appologised unreservedly but carried on with my walk...did i do wrong? About an hour later i took my dogs out for thier fitness walk and a woman called at my home telling my wife that she was getting the police involved because my dog killed her rabbit...to which my wife shut the door in her face!! Do you think the police will be interested as they have not been up to now. dont worry at all pal, dog killed cat , police was called - they said it was the dogs instinct- that was it dogs got aright to be off the lead , the same as a dirty stinking cat- there know use to any one, in my eyes there a pest. here we go cat lovers- wait for it I agree with you on the cats, f*****g things kill more song birds than anything.... Only farms should have cats or anywhere mice and rats are a problem. Quote Link to post

Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
My dogs were fine with the tame rabbits til Sluke came along- you try telling her that tame rabbit not for eating. After living wild for 9 month anythings fair game to her, the als/grey now a swine as well. If they not secure & accident happens its my fault. This women cant blame you for her rabbits getting out, cant see police been interested anyway. How the hell is she going to report it with a straight face for a start- will look a right prat 'Sorry officer' but I want to report the death of my rabbit ???- Probably be asked if batteries run out  I let it get out of garden & dog killed it- who is in the wrong??- not you. Stop worrying- there 100's of rabbits needing homes. I ve got 2 she can have if that desperate for another Quote Link to post

clabstar 2
my lurcher was like a water spaniel he would course ducks across the local pond. he brought back a few cats still alive Quote Link to post
Annmarie09 5
As a cat and lurcher owner I can see both sides, I don't think the police will be interested, as others have said they don't bother about real crime. The rabbit's owners should have made sure their pets were secure, but a peace offering wouldn't go amiss then you can say you've done all you can to put the missus' mind at rest. If one of my lurchers or someone elses killed one of my cats I would accept it as nature (and as long as it was a clean kill at least they wouldn't have suffered, unlike in a road accident), however if someone else's dog came into my garden and did it I would feel that the dog wasn't properly under control. I got sworn at by a granny today because my pup licked a toddler's face, oh well... Running to hide from the slagging off I'm going to get for this post now... Quote Link to post
Staggerz 7
.you have nowt to worry about what happened mate..tough titty if it got out..shit happens...no way on this earth the plod are going to take her serious... sorry to hijack this..pet rabbits and lurchers...do i make it go missing then lads...dont want me new dog making friends..10 year old daughter bit fond of bugs ,although its only 6 months old. bunny cost a fiver..dog obviously a lot more..cant believe i'm typing this really...but is there any way a dog can be okay with a pet rabbit what is hutched...but be a cony killer otherwise?...as long as its in the hutch is it okay to keep it...or is it bad form? picking pup up next week. i feel a stroll to the woods coming on Edited July 11, 2009 by Staggerz Quote Link to post
