Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Travelled to a spot in the dark and set up for daylight to await the sunrise and a possible chance of a buck .There is a large set aside field here which is in the middle of a vast acreage of corn .Got myself under an overhanging tree and waited .The first streaks of light appeared with a few spots of rain and revealed 5 does at the far end unseen in the morning gloom but very apparent to the trained eye against the sandy earth .I watched these for a time then became aware that another deer had entered the field from opposite me ,a young buck ,bordering adulthood with a neat set of antlers of 5 points. I knew the area held a far better specimen of roughly the same age so his demise was on the cards .The sticks were rock steady on him as he slowly walked across to meet the does .The cross hairs just behind his front leg remained perfect and i squeezed off a round at which he ran straight for a while but the legs were doing overtime ,always a sign of a good shot ,to me anyway .He did a half circle and collapsed dead .The does were not bothered in the slightest and i watched these for a short time before making in for the gralloch .Dressed him and was at work for 8 ,cracking morning out .
