glass22 0
Hi. I bought an SMK Mod 20. I took it out and have gotten about 7 rabbits. I do have a few questions: 1. Whats the maximum range I should be shooting them from? On targets I've been able to get accuratly in a head sized area from 45 meters but when I did this on a rabbit it ran off, I'm sure it would of been hit, would it be a case theres not enough power from this range to kill the rabbit? -- 2. Is there anyway to draw the rabbits out quicker? any bait or decoys etc? -- 3. Any tips on gettng close enough, or drawing them out? Quote Link to post
Guest Scuba1
Just hitting the head is not going to cut it. You need to hit the brain or they will run off. The spot you want to hit is situated between the eye and the ears and about the size of a hazel nut. If you can hit that at 45 yards, then they will drop. If not, you are going to end up with an injured wabbit and thats not the way to go. In effect that answers your first question as well I think. Number two: Nope Number three : Its called field craft. Take it slow and blend in with your surroundings and if you thing that you are slow enough, slow down a bit. OOOhhh and leave the day glow vest in the car and get some camo gear. ghillies 209
you'll be suprised just how far 45 meters is... eather way if running at 10.5fp's minimum, your looking at 50 yards for an exsperienced shot... 45 meters is a fair one...(takes loads of practice before you know..). diferent lights move your distance gauge till you get acustomed, lamping and NV gear does something diferent again. try something like extra strong mints as targets on your shoot..randomly place and shoot, paper and live is different. SEAN3513 7
top advice off scuba and ghillies you need to start at 30 yards and be able to consistantly shoot in 1/2" groups...practice,practice,practice. the rest has been said cheers sean Quote Link to post

Ignore it !!!!! The last thing you want to do is think about how far out yo can shoot them. A lot more important is how close can you get to them ;) The rest will come with a lot of practice. The closer you get, the cleaner the kill. ATB Michael Quote Link to post

ATB Michael wise words suba doo , a 16 year old lad i take out shooting is desperate to get his first kill. keep telling him practice practice before going anywhere near live quarry. i also make him stalk them without a rifle just to get him thinking about stalking and fieldcraft, not the end kill.
