SEAN3513 7
sorry about your your dog.............very unfortunate hind sight is a marvelous thing poor lad is looking for a bit of support , not a kicking.......we will never understand the situation fully, we dont know what goes on in other peoples heads, heat of the moment, panic and everything else. sad story, but lesson learned i guess. all the best sean
donk 12
Sounds like the lad was a bit clueless as how to go on? Been there myself, not just with the dogs but in lots of situations in life. All i put to one side in the way of money is a few hundred quid, and i count myself lucky that im able to afford to do that. There was a time when lurchers were owned by ,how shall i say it?, not so well off people? As it happens theres still a lot of lurcher owners still like that. Its so easy to sit on here and preach what should of been done or what shouldnt of been done. Each man/woman has a price on their dog or dogs. 6 years ago i paid £1200 on my beddy x after she was attacked by staffy/bull type dogs. Why? Because i was in a position to be able to pay it. These days i have a limit of a couple of hundred quid. Last time i was at the vets was when my young dog smashed his lower jaw chasing game. Lost all his front lower teeth and an upper fang. The vet estimated a bill of approx. £450,i told her to put him to sleep. After a bit humming and messing about she came back with a bill of £190,which i gladly paid. I look after my dogs to the best of my limited ability and limited finances, dont think its right to slag a lad off because he cant afford big vets bills ! ! ! ! Hannah4181 260
Very sad for both the guy and the dog, it would be easy to attack him for not not being able to afford the dog, but it will achieve nothing. I'm pretty sure he already feels utterly shit about the whole situation. I hope you manage to get back on your feet and when you are in paid employment and think about getting another dog, i'd advice getting insurance . . . . worth it in the long run. simba 1
I had a mate went to same one in bradford with his mother (who is + disabled) and her dog they said no sorry you dont fit either ??? they had to take her dog to the local vets and pay a fortune . She worked all her life and payed her taxes and now when times are tight what help do they give a list of local vets ??? maybe if she was 16 with 3 kids a council house and a house full of staffies they would have treated the animal makes you think

awen 29
if you cant manage to get money from somewhere to look after your dog then you shouldent have had it.you are the only one to blame must have been born with a fukin silver spoon in your mouth, peoples situations and circumstances change not everyones lucky enough to have enough money for every situation that arrises pompus fuker. the problem is itll be the scum that take whatever they can from the goverment do fuk all then go down to the pdsa with there pregnant staffy and they get it free. its the goverment and the greedy fukers that are more worried about a profit than the hard working humble english man that has fallen on hard times. maybe you should of painted your face or got some spurious bird pregnant youd of got help then

mushroom 12,827
i took a little jrt off some one a few years ago this was a saturday night long story short no fur, very badly cracked bleeding back, skin bright red/pink and a major flea infestation took her straight to the pdsa on the sunday (the next morning) as our normal vet charges a lot for sunday out of hours. we asked at the pdsa to just make her comfortable as we would take her straight to our vets in the morning. we did all the means testing despite the mrs and myself telling them we both worked and wouldn't qualify all we wanted was them to make the dog comfortable we offered a large donation £75 i think (our vets would have been about double that for out of hours and treatment) to be met with stoney faces. Well i lost my rag and questioned their policy they told us as they were a charity they were not allowed to accept cash i showed it to them put it in the envelope and said you know the money is there just sort the feckin dog out they then kindley offered to phone the rspca up and report us for neglect :shok: WTF on you go love phone 'em i'll just phone the rspca officer up who sent me here you morons (the wife had phoned her friend up to get advice). their tune soon changed when newspapers were mentioned they made her comfortable got their donation and my regular vet now has a new audi courtesy of the jrt with skin probs. :D this was the blackpool branch if anyone wondered!!! chartpolski 23,085
Years ago, anyone could have their pet treated at the PDSA, no "means testing". But I think with the way vets fees went sky high, the PDSA were becoming overwhelmed !! Now the criteria is that you must be in receipt of housing benifit or council tax benefit; being on the dole isn't enough ! I think this is a bad system, what if you are on the dole, but living with parents or partner ? You wouldn't qualify for these benefits, so wouldn't meet the PDSA's rules ! Another thing I find strange is in this case they put the dog down, vets charge around £100-£200 for this; but they wouldn't "x-ray" the dog; vets charge around £30-£60 for this !! Doesn't make sense ! Cheers.
