Room101 1
What a sad sight.......... To me, seeing those hares lying there with that lamp next to it, gives me the same feeling if you changed the lamp to a rifle or a car.... the feeling of, what a waste. Look at all those fine hares all ambushed at night, they'd have all been excellent daytime warriors..... I'd be ashamed to tell anyone that nevermind brag about...... when I looked at the pic I thought why isnt the dog in it if it caught them?? the lamps there but not the dog, weird. got to agree with you about the waste 17 daytime runs would be way better to watch then 17 on the lamp and I bet the end result would be a lot differnt as in not as many hares in the pic! rabitin girl 16
Something I wrote on here last year, still believe it....... The Hare sits proudly in the middle of his manor, chest out, surveying all around with an air of arrogance. They've travelled far and wide to test their dogs against this legendary animal. Single handed and doubled up, he's beaten them all. Even a team of dogs thrown out of a transit van was no match for this boy.... He once saw a young dog getting carried from the field after what was no more than a second gear jaunt.... One of his easiest foes but the one he should have worried about the most....... For this dog and his impatient owner will do his hunting under the stars. The cover of darkness will be this failure curs career path. No more the beauty of the chase, it's just a numbers game now. No longer 100 yard starts, the form is his starting place. Picked up in his resting place... full of fight but no flight.....The once mighty warrior of them all taken in his prime under a beam. Years later the old men still stand around the fire in the pub reminicising of the untouchable hare in the top field.... All remembering how their dog was the one who nearly had him, how they got close enough to fleck him before he took the chase serious and made good his escape. That hare made many a good dog look foolish....... wonder what happened to him they thought.... Must have been some dog that got him in the end! Great read , really enjoyed that Quote Link to post

You make a valid point regarding the dog, never thought of that. If you wanted a photo to remind you of the event, surely the dog would be in it!!! Just goes to show that it isn't the sport but the numbers that matter, sad. Quote Link to post

May well have been pest control, far more do get shot in one days shooting, they maybe sport to us, but to the farmers they are vermin, atb Richard Why not catch them in a gate net then and try to move them? you say it like gatenetting is easy, anonymous It isnt easy Tomo ,but worth while I think, a friend of mine, who lives around East Anglia caught 27 over three nights ,granted he had a couple damaged , and had to neck them ,but the others he moved to another farm for restocking, and he enjoys some sport there now. Seeing that number of hares taken on the lamp saddens me ,I know its everyone to his own ,,I dont lamp hares and havent shot one for 40 years, I just feel they desrve better, irrational ? Probably but there you are. Quote Link to post
