Interesting thought

Recommended Posts

I was talking to Red Dog last night and a few other Terrier and Lurcher lads during our monthly get together when Red Dog asked a very good question. As we know when a Rabbit is dead the Fleas leave the Rabbit. So when Myxi wipes out a Colony of Rabbits is it possible for the Fleas to lie Dormant until a new Colony of Rabbits Recolonise the Warren. So once again the Circle begins. Your opinions please fellow Hunters.

Thats an interesting question.

How long will a flea stay on the body of a dead rabbit ?

Are climatic considerations an issue ?, After all a dead rabbit will decompose faster in warmer conditions than in colder conditions

I guess the same question could be applied to the flea when it leaves the host, thats to say will a flea see its lifespan increase or decrease in a given set of climatic conditions when it has no host on which to feed ?

There must be quite a few variables which could effect the fleas chance of survival when it leaves the host rabbit
