Off sick with stress.....

Recommended Posts

So, I have been diagnosed with acumulative post traumatic stress disorder. (Far too many dead children at work over a 10yr spell)

They say this was triggered by the birth of my first child and has been getting worse for the last couple of years.

Work have reffered me to the Ambulance trusts own councilor and my own Dr is being brilliant.

The councillor has said I need to get out shooting and fishing more and my Dr thinks all will be well with regard to keeping my FAC.

In fact both he and my councillor say they will write to the local police if there are any problems, as they know I am neither suicidal or homicidal!

1. how will the police find out I am suffering this stress?

2. Do I need to tell them?

3. Will I lose my rifles?

4. I am a BASC member should I inform them?

Its all a bit much at present!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

If the Doctor or your Councillor feel that its a requirement to inform the Police, then they will as part of their Duty. They seem quite happy to let you be as it is and have no intention of doing so.

You have no legal obligation to do so, leave it until your renewal when you need to declare any medical conditions such as these. They will then consult your Doctor, who has already said he is happy with you. Nothing to worry about there then.

Well what ever you do, dont worry about it. Sounds like you have enough on your plate!!

And just do as your Doc has ordered...go out and enjoy your self, relax, and recouperate.

Its amazing how good you can feel after a bit of random rabbit slaughter!! :D

Think of all the things you can do after your harvested as well. :tongue4:

Your Doctor and Counsellor are required to inform the Police IF AND ONLY IF they think you represent a risk to yourself or others. They are FORBIDDEN BY MEDICAL ETHICS to say anything to anyone if you are not such a risk.

I believe you are an ambulance driver? You might want to tell your union. A mate of mine is a fireman and he developed PTSD for reasons like yours. The union were a great help to him.

Hi CBW, I work for the ambulance service too and know the sort of things you've been too. I certainly find time out shooting best to clear my head or just chill out! Don't know much about informing the FLO though. All the best in the future, hope you enjoy your time away. Phil

Thankyou again for your comments!

I am still unable to return to work, I actually tried to push the issue as I really want to get back!!!!(Must be mad!!!)

I have been told that I could be well enough come mid November.

I have been out doing a lot of shooting and last week actually did my first carp night fishing session for 10 years!!!

I feel much better but the Dr and ambulance trust counsellor feel it would be foolish and possibly dangerous for me to return too soon.

Oh well, a bit more shooting and fishing.

I have not informed the FLO, both my Dr and counsellor said they felt there was no need as I was not a danger to myself or the public and would write a letter to such effect if required now or at renewal.

I just want to get back to normal!!!!!

sorry to hear about your situation mate, if suffering from stress there is a real good technique called [yoga nidra] its a yoga practice where you listen to someone talking you through a series of relaxation methods, all you have to do is lie down. it really does work my ex girlfriend was diagnosed with cancer she lied down and listened to it for half an hour a day and it helped her more than anything else. if you like i can get hold of a couple and post them to you. pm me if you like atb awen
