JordKil 0
Iv recently noticed a whole load of new wasp activity around the dyke next to my shed. Theres been wasps going in and out of the gaps in the wall and Im sure that theres a nest there as the number is unbelievable. Also when I go near i get the livin feck stung out of me (so i guess they're protecting it??) Whats the best procedure to get rid of the little b*****ds? I found this nest destroyer foam stuff at work by Rentokil for a fiver would that be worth a shot? Also for the record no fire!!! its right next to 2 wooden cold frames and pretty close to the shed so its too high risk. Cheers Jordan Quote Link to post

Magpie 102
DON'T! go near it with that foam shit, It doesn't work. You need to get hold of a product called FICAM D. It's a powder form insecticide. Apply it to the entrance hole and repeat it until you see powder covered (white) Wasps coming out. Once you see white Wasps the jobs done. Wasps traveling in and out of the nest will transfer the insecticide throughout the nest and to the queen. This will kill the nest. our best applying it with a dusty 5 a five liter powder puffer with extension wands. However I'm sure you'll be able to adapt something in order to apply your FICAM. At the end of the day if you're going to try and use that foam stuff you might as well apply the ficam with a spoon. Depending on the size of the nest it should be completely dead within twenty four hours. One word of advice DON'T breath any in NOT GOOD. Alternatively you could call on a local pester. If you can get it done for about £30 - £40 you'll have done well. Hope this helps. Quote Link to post

Ficam D is a professional only product, and the cost of a new DR5 duster (around £85 plus lances at £38 each + vat), makes it a silly suggestion for one nest. Call in a pro, it should cost between £20 and £60, as mucking about with it yourself could cost alot more than money. Alternatively, leave it alone if it's not bothering you much. Quote Link to post
lurchers 2,762
i work as a pest controller mate if you dont want to pay anyone to do it buy a tin of rapid fly spray it will have permethrin in the ingredients and wait until its dark so the wasps are settled and spray the full tin into the hole.it does work and when you get up in the morning they will all be dead.good luck mate Quote Link to post

Sound advice from mat there. I wasn't for one minute suggesting that you should invest in all the gear to treat one wasp nest that would as Mat says 'be silly'. Ficam is indeed a professional use product and should only be used by those with BPCA/RSPH training. However it is very easy to get hold of most pest control products and with common sense and the ability to read you'll be able to get along just fine. I would however recommend you use a local professional to deal with any wasp nest situation and not attempt to do it yourself. If you can get it done for twenty quid which I doubt you'll be laughing. If anyone quotes you more than £45 plus vat send um' packing. Quote Link to post
