is a ratcatcher classed as a pistol?

I once got raided a few hours after zeroing my scope in my massive surrounded by trees garden, a few hours later I got a phone call saying it was the police and can I come to the front door with my hands in the air, I went to the door as i thought it was a joke but when I opened the door all the street was closed off and i had loads of guns pointing at me, some stupid neighbour had phoned them saying i was going mad in the garden with a shotgun, the police come in checked my guns, I had a rapid 7, 2x BSA supersports and a webley falcon at the time, they checked them all and said they were fine and I didn't have any shotguns at the time, wasn't a pleasant experience and I never spoke to the neighbour again, the firearms officer that checked the guns just looked at them, cocked the barrels on the supersports and the falcon and was impressed with the rapid 7 setup, no chrono or anything, they then went next door and spoke to the neighbour probably for wasting time...

fukin grassing twats if any 1 of my neighbours grassed me up to the police like that thay wood get so much shit

My understanding - start's life as a Rifle - must not be shortened below legal minimum of 24 1/2 Inches

 

Any shorter is not classed as a Air Rifle

 

So regardless of make - if it is shorter and over 6FP - Banged to rights......................

Don't forget those of us that like to run Carbines with 9" bbl & sub 12ftlb does not make the rifle ilegal or make it a pistol. This is our sport & we must protect it, look at the bbl length on the Ultra or the Cometa Fenix Carbine, I built a rifle with Walther 4" bbl & 3" aircan Silencer, it did not make it a pistol, a pistol is a handgun that can be carried covertly & operated with one hand, there is a big difference when a fixed stock is in place the whole balance is wrong, they have to be shouldered unless your John Waine & not easy to conceal, unless it's a TDR & they are not classed as a pistol & I have built a few in my time.

Here are a few from my collection none of these have a barrel length over 10" this does not make them pistols or Sec 1 as they all run at sub 12ftlbs & are classed as air rifles or carbines, the Theoben I built has a 31/2" barrel.

On a mission, forgot to show the TDR next to the Ratcatcher to show size, note the TDR is a take down rifle legal to own without license if kept sub 12ftlbs, they will operate with barrel removed this does not make it a pistol, as it was for purpose built as a Take Down Rifle or TDR, I have a few others that break down into 3 & 4 parts but the griffon breaks into 2.

Hope this will put some light on is it a Rifle or is it a Pistol, I think we all can work it out now.
