is a ratcatcher classed as a pistol?

Recommended Posts

Shortening the barrel won't increase power but I guess they may think It's a pistol due to that. With yours not being modded I really can't see what there problem Is  Sounds like there just being c**ts..

 Shortening would reduce power.

hi there mate spoke to my RFD about this today

the silencer may be classed as illegal if it is a proofed silencer

if it is proofed it will have some numbers stamped into the casing

as you say it is all standard the the pc involed knows nothing about rifles as ratcatchers have been around for years and tbh the officer needs to get in touch with crossman to get the full licensing and specs for your gun..

also did you buy it new cause if you did i would put them in contact with the shop that you bought it from as they will have the records of the sale

the ratcather rifle and the ratbuster pistol both use the same pistol grip, but the ratcatcher has the butt part attched and long barrel and the ratbuster just has pistol grips and the short barrel

if you bought it second hand then someone may have modified it from a pistol put a long barrel on it which may have taken it over the 6ft/lb limit hence making it illegal as it was produced as a pistol and will always be a pistol if you get what i meen

also does this still run on co2 or has it been modded to run on air?

Demand money then!!! this is the most load of crap i have heard what are you doing about it? If it is a village police station then go to the bigger one in your closest city or town and ask for a more knoledgeable officer. the one in question is not really fit for the job of taking firearms!

Hi I am real sorry to see the wrong that has been done by an ignorant member of our fine constabulary, the Rat catcher by Crosman is deemed an air rifle for purpose it has a fixed stock that cannot be removed by hand without tools

ie no quick release system, this weapon on a good day will not give more than 9ftlb of muzzle energy without substancial alteration to the main valve & air supply & as you know the legal limit for air rifle not on Sec 1 is 12ftlb, please contact Anne Hubbard at BASC she has great knowledge on these matters & become a member, the Police will think twice if they think you have the stron arm of BASC on your side, as for your air rifle I would think it will be locked away in Police stores awaiting further instruction from one of those nice FEOs

Hope this will help you.

Hi again I feel so passionate about this and other gunners out there that have gone through the old bill mincer I have done pics from my private collection of what is deemed air pistol & that of air rifle, the pistol has a barrel lenght of

7.3/4", from breech to muzzle the rifle has the barrel length of 15" from breech to muzzle about the same length as a junior rifle, does this mean those of us that like useing carbines are breaking the law as most have a 9" 10" barrel, I think not, I have enclosed a comparison for you to use both Crosman types, but one is a pistol the other a rifle, can you guess what one is the rifle, afterall it does have a 16" stock.

Hi

The Ratcatcher is designed as a rifle - its model number is 2250B and is stamped into the casing. The stock is integral to the rifle.

The Ratbuster is a pistol - its model number is 2240 and thats stamped into the casing too.

You can easily prove that from the Crosman Corporation web site.

Police might be confusing the two and stating that the pistol is over the limit.

Whatever the cause, get some real advice from BASC or there is a solicitor (Clive Rees) who advertises in Countrymans Weekly. Reckons he provides free advice (??) his no is 07969 378 750.

Cheers

I understand that you want to just get the hassle over with, but you really need to follow this through. As it seems obvious that you are in fact doing nothing wrong by owning your gun. And the sport has enough people not just the police with a wrong view of it. And by proving your point in a respectful but educated way to the said police officer and his superiors, will only in my opinion do the sport justice.

We are expected to tow the legal line so should the police. The particular one in question. There are procedures to be followed when things are investigated, and by the sound of it the officer has not done so properly, this may be fine if you can just sign over your gun and have done with it. But what if it were something more serious? This disregard to follow the procedures that the police have put in place! could lead to a real miss-carriage of justice with you at the receiving end, with no simple way of getting out of it! If anything to make the officer know you are a person with integrity and respect for the law, and just expect to be treated as such. because this is simply treating you as the total opposite. Which is wrong and against your rights as a British citizen. the officer should be made aware of this.

This is my opinion and I really feel for you, Keep at it mate, and keep enjoying the sport. We need you to make the police realize there are more responsible people with guns than they seem to think. ;)

I once got raided a few hours after zeroing my scope in my massive surrounded by trees garden, a few hours later I got a phone call saying it was the police and can I come to the front door with my hands in the air, I went to the door as i thought it was a joke but when I opened the door all the street was closed off and i had loads of guns pointing at me, some stupid neighbour had phoned them saying i was going mad in the garden with a shotgun, the police come in checked my guns, I had a rapid 7, 2x BSA supersports and a webley falcon at the time, they checked them all and said they were fine and I didn't have any shotguns at the time, wasn't a pleasant experience and I never spoke to the neighbour again, the firearms officer that checked the guns just looked at them, cocked the barrels on the supersports and the falcon and was impressed with the rapid 7 setup, no chrono or anything, they then went next door and spoke to the neighbour probably for wasting time...

fukin grassing twats if any 1 of my neighbours grassed me up to the police like that thay wood get so much shit
