gnipper 6,507
I've just been and set my cage in a stable building where they have been losing a fair few chickens etc (12 sat night and 10 the night before but he didn't come last night)) but instead of baiting it i've put it right up to the hole where he got in which was a perfect fit for the entrance of the trap. Has anyone ever set a trap like this with any success or do you think the fox will give it a wide berth? I would say it'll be pretty dark in there when the doors are shut so it could work. Hopefully the attraction of all the hens inside will make him a bit reckless. Cheers, gnipper Quote Link to post

Cheers, gnipper i know of people setting rabbit cages in a similar fashion but its anyone guess good luck though he sounds like hes causing a bit to much trouble to be left untouched Quote Link to post
adam s 32
We had a fox problem at school where we did agriculture the fox was getting the chickens so the teacher gave me and my mate permission to come in on the weekend and set a fox trap and we did it the way you explained. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
so I presume the cage door is set of via a foot treadle, rather than a pin type holding the bait Quote Link to post

Hopefully they won't get spooked and will enter it. Quote Link to post

bignoel 14
you have placed it over the entrance hole [ not a good idea ] foxes reallise there is a strange object in there area and will avoid it it should be placed away from where he enters cover the floor with loose soil bait it but with door kept open when he takes bait then reset the trap . remember the cunning fox he is no fool . bignoel 14
he has already set the trap over the entrance sop he will need to prebait the fox do not like the feel of the wire floor . trust me Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,507
If I move the trap away from the hole then the fox will be able to get the 60/70 other live ones in there. As for the floor of the trap its concrete in the shed so soil would be unusual to it in there. He hasn't been back yet but hopefully when he does he'll risk the wire floor, I think its a cub anyway as there has been a few others killed in the area (2 by cars and 1 by my mate). Fingers crossed, gnipper Quote Link to post
bignoel 14
i ment for you to place it out side the stable its not allways a good idea to place it directly where the incident is takeing place . if its a cub he may well go in .noel Quote Link to post
