moonlighter 1,164
a mate of mines dog can kill all that queeryand still bring rabbits back live it is a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie there's a big difference between able to catch all quary and been the perfect all rounder.....it would be nearly impossible to be perfect it all areas of lurcher work, which it would have to be to be classed as the best allrounder. Sorley x 32
what do use think the best allrounder dog is pre ban for like rabbits hares dears foxs etc ? Didn't know dears were quarry, the old dears round here are quite sweet, a bit slow on the paths and in the shops but no real bother. Actually, I'd rather have two dogs. Too much of what we expect a lurcher to do is really specialised. Sure a decathlon athlete will put in a good show. But they will never compete against a specialist athlete for the given disciplines. Lets say it is pre ban. An all rounder can do well at hare coursing but never as well as a specialist. Similarly it might be good at ferreting but it will never compete with a specialist ferreting dog. Similar never be as good at other stuff as dogs bred for the job. If you are looking to get a dog fella, work out what you enjoy best or what you do most of then get the dog for that job, it will put in good efforts at other stuff but at least it will shine at the thing you enjoy most. fielder 18
3/4 grey 1/4 collie. Best alrounder in my eyes if brought on properly. Fast, clever, agile. Steve I would be interested to see a 3/4 grey, 1/4 Australian cattle dog, the half crosses have a lot going for them, the 3/4 could be awesome. Quote Link to post
Jack Dark 2
what do use think the best allrounder dog is pre ban for like rabbits hares dears foxs etc ? I think that probably the best (pre ban) all rounder would be the ¾ Grey ¼ Collie, brains, speed, stamina and if well bred and brought on well courage enough for almost any task. Quote Link to post

MR POACH 2
ive never had or seen a dog that will do all 5 single handed, but the ones my dad had and the ones his friends had always seemed to be deerhound x's and collie's. that was even when the bull crosses came in. however he did have a few very good bull crosses and one was an alrounder. this was early 's though VERY well worded , all 5 Quote Link to post
