Suitable Disinfectant for Hutch Cleaning

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a suitable disinfectant? I've not used any to clean the hutch before but have been told its best to use some. I was just wondering what to use that won't cause the Ferts any irritation.

Anything that goes cloudy when waters added to it is generally discouraged, to be honest i just scrub the cage with hot soapy water & have done for years now, used to spend a fortune on some stuff that smelt like bubble gun cant remember the name of it though, not had any health problems here

Not only generally discouraged but potentially lethal. Virkon is good, as are all the defra-approved cleaning agents, like Trigene, because they also kill viruses.

Mind you, if you belong to the camp that believes viruses are perfectly harmless, much like stones really (which I'm sure you don't), then why bother to use any disinfectant at all?

as its cheap as chips i use asda own baby sterilising fluid - basically bleach without all the extra nasties added for extra selling power!! - dont use dettol type ones i know they can cause nervous system damage to cats so prob not good for the ferts!!

btw you can use steri fluid 1tsp to 1 litre of water to make it drink safe apparently - NEVER TRIED IT LIKE!!!!!

to Mistral Cleaners is excellent!

it dilutes up to 100:1 and so lasts for ages.. my bottle has lasted a year with weekly cleanings of a 4 x 10 ft shed...

A powerful quaternary based cleaner, disinfectant and deodoriser. It effectively destroys a broad spectrum of bacteria, fungi and viruses at source. It kills odours and leaves a fresh fragrance. Safe to use on all water washable surfaces, floors, walls, cages, bedding, runs, carpets and drains.

Ideal for usage in Kennels and catteries to control Canine Parvo-virus (type 2), Feline Calici virus and kennel cough etc. Also effective against Newcastle disease, TB, Avian Inflenza Virus and foot & mouth not to mention its use in many laundries to control MRSA Unlike conventional disinfectants it will not cause detrimental effect to animals and is safe to use around them. Also highly effective against Weils Disease
