How is it with the ferrets? I'm very new to ferreting, didn't know you could work them together Quote Link to post
stoaty1 35
Nothing better than pushing rabbits with ferrets you have brought on to have them caught by your own bird. Deadly combination when all goes well. Summer waiting is a killer and it seems to get longer and longer. Another few years and I swear it will be Christmas before the vegetation dies back enough. stubby 175
as much as I love BOP's I can only see it as a sport, rather than control, as rabbits caught are only via the number of birds being flown, attended a national ferreting day where they did longnetting, lurchers and birds, split into 3 sections, and the birds caught 0 rabbits. would you therefore use nets/longnets on one side of a warren, leaving one side open, thus guaranteeing some rabbits are caught, as can Imagine rabbits bolting from all ways, but missing most Quote Link to post

col g 0
ive worked ferrets along side my father in laws harris hawks a few times but it wasnt for me.the bird did catch a few that bolted but id much rather run a dog along side the ferrets.i find this more enjoyable and theres less chance of youre ferret ending up as bird food Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
It is fantastic sport bolting rabbits for harris hawks even better for gos hawks.I had a few seasons ferreting for the yorkshire fc but like some one has said it is onley sport not pest control but brilliant sport at that and not to be missed if you get the oppertunity.atvb Quote Link to post
loulove1 0
Is it just me or has this site suddenly turned into a pest control site????? Stubby (or should I say stupid) your not very bright for a moderator, take a look at the title of this site as i am getting fed up with reading so called moderators stupid politically correct comments....its called .... "THE HUNTING LIFE, YOUR NO 1 SOURCE FOR FEILD SPORTS" YES IT SAYS SPORT IN THE TITLE.... WHAT US TRUE HUNTING LIFE MEMBERS DO .... FEILD SPORTS......NOT PEST CONTROL..... Quote Link to post

Young birds are usualy left to feed up on their first few kills but after that you can take a fair few on a day. Also it is a sport and do you realy need to have lots of kills too enjoy it ? Andy.
