Michael Owen?

Good signing? Or bad signing?

there must be a few Manu Utd supporters with opinions on this! we get rid of probably the best player in the world for £80 million, loose Tevez and sign Owen on a free ....

He scored more league goals than Tevez last year Jasp, and his shots to goals ratio was also well ahead of all other players in the Premier league, including Torres, Rooney, Ronaldo, etc.

We've had a problem with finishing moves off over the last few seasons, if Owen is given the ball in the right place, there's a very good chance it's going to end up in the back of the net. People say that he's lost his pace, so what? You've got Rooney to do all the running, alongside fellow new signing Valencia, who will play as a proper winger.

Owen gets slated for being injury prone, when he was at Liverpool, it was his hamstrings that were a big issue. There's a good medical team at OT, look at the way Ryan Giggs is still playing at his age. He is also one for having notoriously twangy hamstrings, and he's still playing at the highest level.

It's also worth remembering, that at Newcastle, they didn't have the strength in depth that allowed the time for a key player such as Owen to recover properly from an injury, with players often rushed back when not fully fit. Newcastle are also not renowned for their medical treatment staff, you only have to look at the amount of players they've had stuck to treatment tables over the last 5 years....

I personally think this could be a good signing, Fergie has form with players approaching the twilight of their careers. Look at Teddy Sheringham, Lauren Blanc & Edwin Van Der Sar as three examples.

Time will tell.

it was abit of a surprise of owen going to man u,hull city was after him same again tho i did'nt think that would be a good signing for us.he started football young many injuries not sure if he could find is form again.he seems to get fit then comes down with another injury.good luck to the lad but i don't think he'll play many games for man u.

Does seem a bit of a strange signing dont it,what with his injury record....was kind of hoping we might see him down the hammers :D

Fergies not daft, how good will it look on him if owen starts performing this season....also i was reading some statistics the other day owens finishing percentage of goalscoring chances was 29 % compared to anelka/torres/adebayor etc who were down around 21 %......so with the chances utd create you can see the logic behind the signing.....

Good on the lad, a second chance at last maybe?

He gave his career to Liverpool, he should have been up and gone at least a season before he did and they played him to death.........

His goal to game ratio is still excellent really so who knows.........

I believe, if he stays injury free, he could be top scorer, in the premier league, and Fergie has done it again, and I hope Nani, Berbetov, show there full potential, + a fellow called Hargreaves, is back this season as well, in all UNITED, are laughing all the way to the bank, LADS AND LASSIES, IT LOOKS ANOTHER GREAT SEASON COMING UP, cmon you RED DEVILS,

:clapper::clapper: Wow they red shirt suits him better than the last one his wore ;), said in a earlier post if the lad manages not to get Injured he could score a hatfull!! expecially when you look at the service he'll get compared to the other teams he's played for :whistling:....

Its still a worry when you consider some games last year was Won by Ronaldo single handed! In alot of games he looked like the only player scoring in the Utd team so hopefully Owen can plug the gap! I can't help thinking another flair player from midfield needs bringing in :hmm:....
