Swamper, that fire's still going mate :( . I walked the Terrier earlier...about 8pm and it was still smoking over the back of the moor. Some fire that mate. I'm working over there saturday morning so I'll have a look in between having a go at the geese. :guitar:

it's that time of year I'm afraid lads, I'm a FireFighter in the West Mids and we have to deal with hundreds of grass fires through the "summer holidays" :(

makes you feel like slapping the little buggers  sometimes you can see plumes of smoke appearing further across the fields, as you put one out the buggers are lighting more, sometimes we can spend most of the shift just chasing grass fires from field to field (or park etc) :diablo:

Summer hols and hot weather is a bad combination if you are a firefighter, iam a full time firefighter in County Durham and we have been run of our feet this last couple of weeks, and the school hols have just started :icon_eek: Some fell fires can burn for days , once the fire gets into the peat its a b*****d to put out.

Keeps, I'm whole time too mate, back on at 7 in the bloody morning, like you said the kids have already had us run off our feet and the holls have only just begun!

I don't know if you have heard of it...... the seven trent sewage treatment plant near Coleshill? the sewage lagoons have been burning for about ten days now, last tour we had 12 trucks there on day shifts and reduced to 6 on nights, the authorities reckon it smoulders all year underground, it's just when it breaks the surface sending plumes of smoke across the motorways it becomes a problem, then as you know it's a right bugger to control!

as you can imagine the smell is something else!

:icon_eek:That is just incomprehensable!!! My god! First you guys walk toward blazing fires. Now you have to put up with That???

Where the hell's the RESPECT button on this thing?! It honestly brings tears to my eyes when I consider the unadulterated selflessness of the Fire Fighters. I Salute You! :good::good::good::good::good:

Many Thanks for that DS, :signthankspin:

I've been keeping an eye on your posts of late and I can honestly say I'd rather be you right now, out on my smallholding, trapping mink.
