Guest Know Fack all
I was there the night Ben won, I can remember stamping on my seat, then thinking this isnt going to last long in the 1st round as Ben looked in trouble, Quite how he pulled him self together to win was as brave as they come, he clubbed him into submission, with hooks. Bens face on the way out of the ring was just a puffed up mess, All ben kept saying is "they only brought him over to beat me up" I lost interest in boxing as there seemed to be a large void in quality fights cheers for reminding of a unberleivable night. The interveiw one is sad, it reminded me of the other reason I lost interest Don King, he ruined boxing, he ruined many a fighters chances of fighting the best of the best, and funny that Roy Jones Junior is mentioned as he is probably one of the worst people to be affected by not wanting to work for the Murdering gangsta Don King and fair play to him for standing his ground as Roy Jones would of been the best of the best my opionion i think thay measured him on some machine at 6 punches a second or something and we lost out from seeing a master of good clean boxing. Have to agree mate,Calzaghe is a real throw back him and jones 5 years ago would of been a classic thats for sure i remember watching that Benn-Mc cellan fight he was a good boxer Mc cellan and i was sad to see [bANNED TEXT] happend to him but it has to be said he was a bit of a nasty b*****d himself, he was also well into his pitbulls and like to match them too i remember him poseing with a couple of Staffords while he was over here for the benn fight so at least he had a little bit of taste. [bANNED TEXT] do you lads think of Hatton?

Hatton When I wrote that I lost interest in watching fights earlier, I will have to say that Hatton and a couple of others still keep me interested, but when you look at what was left after the Canadian Lennox lewis hung up his gloves well, Danny lazy f**ck williams and the other geezer lol.............I cant remember his name .....somes him up really, you know always talked a good fight.........he was our big hope who was hopeless Audrey Harrison thats him is he doing pantomine yet? Sorry for ranting on but I spent to many nights up till 4am drinking like a fish waiting for the good old days boxing classics to return only to go home dissapointed I guess that this is a real case of "Its not as good as it used to be" and "the good old days" at least they look like they wanted to win then, unlike Danny williams. :11:
socks 32,253
a very good mate of mine fought benn in the army and stopped him both times in the first round ... whilst serving in hong kong he was allowed to enter the asian games ... he is still the only western man to walk away with a gold .... he was hounded by promoters but his regiment wouldnt let him leave .... he would have been a true pro ............ celt 1
i heard ben was a kickboxer and then made the transaction to boxing [bANNED TEXT] he left the army,, is that totally wrong?? he did kick box but turned pro after an amateur career. My favourite ben fight was when he fought collins at the g mex. I had just come over from Ireland to work and went to the fight. Chris pyatt vs Steve Foster had the crowd bouncing. Then 20000 benn fans were roaring him into the ring to some jungle music, then stadium went dark, celtic crosses in a light show, horslips music playing and then a light shines into the tunnel, Mission Impossible these tune started and collins made his way to the ring. Benn hit collins with his hardest left hook early and collins took it and after that ben was battered, collins was too tough, too strong and too experienced for benn, made him look like a novice. Much as I like ben, the steve collins story is one I like. I watched him win the irish senior title as an 18 year old at light heavy. He went to boston where he trained at the petonelli gym. His sparring partner was Marvin Haggler, who liked sparing wiht the tough white kid. He wasn't protected at all USBA champ in his 15th fight, then Mike McCallum on short notice for his first world title shot. A bit of a tougher start than benn, but still appreciate benn as a good fighter. Love my boxing, 14 years at the gym from 7 year old gets it in your blood
AKA-BRINDLE 879
When a lot of people talk of that era of middle weights many seem to totally forget Collins despite the fact he beat Eubank and Benn twice! someone above mentions Danny Williams dose anyone remember him winning the Brittish title off Mark Potter? dislocated his right shoulder but refused to quit pummeld Potter with his left was a real classic like something from a Rocky movie had me on me feet spilling beer everywhere
shepp 2,285
Steve Collins, f*****g hard man! A real throw back to boxers of tougher times, I imagine after Ben hit with his best and Collins just took it, it must have been a real blow to him mentally. I think we should also remember Benn nearly always fought bigger men than himself and Steve Collins was a big super heavy. Still I take nothing from Steve a real no non-sence pro.
