Does the ferrets comming into season take alot out of them?

Recommended Posts

Hello im just curious to weather ferrets commin into season takes alot out of them, what with fighting and gettin harassed by a male, also their eating habbits change. Since the season came in i have got more and more concerned for my ferret jill. She is a small jill, narrow but now she looks more like a weezel, im feeding all my ferrets the same and even sometimes they dont eat all of what im giving them.

I know this hole topic sounds abit dumb from me, but i realise its a natual process for them but im just concerned and wanting some tips on how i can make this time better for them.

Thanks, please no stupid comments.

P.S i want the ferreting season to COMMENCE ASAP!!!!

Are you asking about male or female ferrets? I assume you know that a jill left in oestrus is vulnerable to complications like pyometra?

Seperate them or get them neutered

My jill is with the neutered male i guess it dont make much difference. I cant put both males together as they fight like cat and dog and wont agree to disagree. Im in a dilemma! I would rehome the albino hob i have just so i can seperate them but no 1 around here wants them.

Ahh i dont know!

Thanks anyway kay

Yes it's a natural process BUT your not making it natural by not breeding from her so she remains in season.

Either borrow a snipped hob, get her jabbed or neutered.

Oh aye i know you got to breed a female hence why i got my male hob snipped, but i need to seperate them but cant i have an albino hob i havent had a chance to work along side the jill yet. And im considering rehoming him due to this. He wont get on with the other hob probably due to being in season isnt making it any easier for me to introduce them properly without nearly killing eachother

a neutered male is not a snipped hob.

I get confused by the two i mean he has been tied. No sign of any pregnancy so far. The vet said that was the best option so i can keep them mating for the jills sake

Its not an all year round issue , the fighting tends to be during the breeding season , if the males neutered he is castrated, its a vasectomised hob you have so he is basically still entire & is more likely to fight due to this

It sounds like you have had your hob/male "vasectamised" which is the right way to go, easy to tell, has he got balls?

As for the jill being slim, my jills are always a lot slimmer in the summer, partly down to coat and partly down to hormones i guess, as they always seem to "fatten up" come the winter.

The two hobs will fight like cat and dog until about september time, no need to get rid of one though, just buy a spare hutch. Problem solved.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much to u all. I shall see [bANNED TEXT] i can do this month about a spare hutch. Because i am reluctant to parting with the albino hob, i want to see what hes like out working.

Thanks again people!!

jills always loose weight in the spring summer as said before it's down to loosing winter coat and hormones don't worry bout that. :D :D but best thing is get them males seperated also they cannot be with the jill when she is getting near to drtopping it's presenting the male with a possible meal ticket and your jill with a sh1t load of stress and plenty of violent aggro more pens/hutches/cages should be top of thee shopping list. atb
