I had some time today so I thought I'd knock up another Larsen trap, can't have too many of them :D I was using almost all 2"x2" 3mm thick galvanised weldmesh. A little cutting attachment, which kept breaking, lucky I had tons of 'em, on my Dremel made very neat slices through the wire to cut out panels from the 8'x4' sheets.

I cut out a bit of ply for the roof, drilled a few holes in the top to cable tie it to the frame. The rest of the trap is also cable tied together, they make a very strong job IMO and are very versatile. A little sawing later and I had my two sets of split perches and two proper perches for my call bird. I'd an empty two litre Pepsi bottle and a two litre volvic water bottle knocking around so I used them for water and grain, also cable tied to the side of the trap. Throw in a cheap tin of Coshida cat food from Lidl and I'm good to go.

I rang Dad, thinking he'd want it for a particular bit of land, nope, have enough thanks. Right, OK. Ring one of my farmers and she'll take it next week :good: Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I see a magpie floating about in the wood beside my farm. Ahhh I'll be having you. I catch my reserve magpie call bird in his/her little "hotel" and into the Larsen it goes. Hopefully I'll have that other maggie by this evening.

Big bird in the sky, hopefully just an exercise. Lots of thunder and lightning and about an hour of an absolute downpour.

Cheers Stubby ;)

Tin opener... Knew there was something I forgot!

I'll be getting straws for the bottles tomorrow, no flies on me :tongue2:

The bottles are great as I leave a little "ledge" over where I cut an opening for the birds head, keeps out droppings and rain (though maybe not todays deluge).
