Hi, I was just wondering if there were any laws regarding snaring on land that you don't have permission to do so: I know carrying an air rifle whilst trespassing is £3000 fine/3 months behind bars, and that general trespassing either results in a £50 or so fine or a "Geroff me land!!" sort of thing, but I've heard nothing about snaring.

By the way this is just out of interest: I'm not getting ideas :D

In England, heavy fine or imprisonment as well as confiscation of ALL equipment including gun and vehicle.

Why don't you just ask for permission?

you WONT GO TO PRISON for poaching rabbits :icon_redface: feck i should know :D and its unlikly to result in a vehicle being taken, it has to be more serriouse than that, but equipment will be taken

but as holdaway says , try asking for permision

Hi, good thread this, I dont want to hijack it but can I ask advice, I have an old filled in canal at the back of my property, now used as a nature type trail, I often walk it with the pooch, well it has segregated areas for planting, shrubs, bush's etc, these are separated by chicken wire fences, well over time the rabbits have got in and are causing havoc in there, warrens everywhere, damage to the shrubs etc, well there runs are as clear as day, Ive never done snaring in my life, but would really like to pull some bunnies for the pot and the pooch's barf diet, so, lets say if someone not me :whistling: was to buy 10 - 20 snares and visit this place last at night and first in morning if caught would I errr he expect to get a large fine ? and be in trouble, Ive never been in trouble in my life, and I er dont think he has, but when someone mentions poaching, I dont think of Rabbit as poaching, is it in your opinion ? I always thought poaching was on an estate type thingy, going after game, pheasant, grouse, deer etc etc for god sake would you be in trouble for setting a rat trap ?

advice appreciated

Craig

It's not a matter of opinion mate, It's the law what matters, and taking rabbits without permission is poaching.

If you snared on my land, I would go for a full prosecution regardless of cost, or just shoot you in the head.

Makes no difference it's a pest animal, what if you caught an animal I WANTED on my land? like a dog or cat?

Since it's not your land and your just tresspassing you have no idea what animals regularly use the land.

You don't know if the land/estate owner has pet cats, dogs or whatever that could be using the land.

You would shoot someone in the head? And you said that on a public forum?

If someone came onto my land and set a snare or fenn, that then killed one of my dogs, you can bet your life I would.

Glass calm down it's a hyperthetical situation, as ive stated, I didnt want to upset anyone, Ive stated it's not an estate, with a land owner / game keeper etc it's a piece of common land, frustrates me what the lil toe rags are doing to the saplings, shrubs etc, it's a long way away from any homes etc,

Id just like to say silly remarks like "I'd shoot you in the head" have no place on a forum like this, if you want to talk that way there are plenty of sites on the internet where Im sure you'll be able to find like minded people.

ATB with your search

There is a field near me, I don't have a clue who owns it, (still trying to find out) but its full of rabbits, so if its really getting dark I let her lose. I don't hunt with a gun and I only use the one dog, so I not shore what would happen if she was caught with a rabbit in her mouth by the land owner. I would just say she got lose and then ask permission.
