difference between sub 12ftlbs and FAC

Recommended Posts

Its worth a look on here,,http://www.rapid7ownersclub.com for some good advice on what configuration to go for. A chap called Fluffybuck has some first class data on power levels/barrel length etc. It boils down to sticking between 25 and 30ft/lbs to get the best shot count and not waste air,,with either a 16" or 19" barrel. That way,,you get a reasonable range of pellet sizes/weight that your barrel may like and will stay stable in flight. Higher power FAC air tends to be stuck with Bis Mags which may not suit your purposes. Have a play with ChairGun and see how little trajectory changes once you are running at 26ft/lbs compared with higher outputs. Whichever you choose,,its far cheaper to get a SH air bottle for your rifle,,,to increase shot numbers,,rather than buying a long barrel to do exactly the same.

Also remember when you put the FAC air rifle on your ticket it will always be an FAC air rifle you cant change it back to normal 12ft lb, it will forever be an FAC which don't attract such a high price second hand if you ever wanted to sell it, as I found out.

I have just sold a mk2 Rapid 7 with 19 inch barrel, bought from Theoben as an FAC which was doing 38ft lb in .22

The factory one is regulated and I got 50 shots at near enough full power before it started to tail off, I could get 75 shots before the bottle vented itself, the last shots were around 15ft lb, but you had to start to allow for the drop off

If I bought another one it would definatly be a second hand bargain, not new one, it was fantastic for shooting up trees at pigeons, something you couldn't do with a rim fire..
