Lennard 10
L.S., I wash my dogs with a commercial flea shampoo that contains permethrin and piperonyl butoxide (1 mg/ml) as enhancer. It is expensive, one bottle costs 16 euros and lasts 3 to 4 washings. Some weeks ago I bought insecticide stock solution to mix my own spray for plants. I saw it had exactly the same actives in it but in a higher concentration (40 mg/ml). I can't think of anything stopping me to dilute the insecticide with a mild shampoo/normal dog shampoo to 1 mg/ml. Can you? atb L Edited June 30, 2009 by Lennard
Lennard 10
For the record...I saw no objections and diluted the 40 mg/ml material with water and a bit of store flea shampoo to 2 portions of 1 mg/ml and took dog for dog under the shower. I found no difference in reponse to the home made shampoo: the same dissapointment of dogs forced under the shower and the same hyacinth like smell of permethrin. No change in behaviour or signs of intoxication or something. They seem pretty flea free now, found nothing with the comb. It will be standard procedure I think...I reduced my de-fleaing costs with more than 50 % L
