My Sealyham/Russell pups

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was in two minds as to whether bother posting this or not, tbh. Everyone 'knows' that as soon as you have a litter out of your best/favourite bitch (never mind that it's the only litter you've bred, ever, and you did it to keep pups back!) you're a dog dealer and a scumbag :icon_eek:  But I'm so proud of how these little sods are turning out I couldn't contain my pee any longer lol Here's Gypsy's litter of six at 3 weeks, 1 day old :D

At least half are reserved already and I'm keeping one too. If (IF) there's one left at the end I'll ask on here but I doubt it :) They're starting to walk now, and eating minced rabbit, chicken etc. Proper full of themselves too :boxing: I've left them in the house because the kids are at them regularly now they're old enough to interact with, and between the three girls, friends, hoovers, TVs, washer and dryer etc they'll be bullet proof by the time they're ready to go to their new homes (and will be used to the outside run from 6 weeks onwards). Hopefully that will make things easier for them AND their new owners when the time comes :)

The dam (my Gypsy) is a first cross working Sealyham/Russell and the sire is a nice Russell with a bit of bull about him. There's no real call for earth work around here, they're all above ground, so it's mostly bushing, ratting and the like. She's seen a bit of hard digging though when younger and by heck she's a good little bitch. She can get into any spot, turn around on a sixpence (she can turn back to front inside her own space inside a 6" pipe all day long, doubling back on herself easily) and she's got brains and guts a plenty for what I want. No, really - I'm not selling them! I'm just really chuffed with her hence the pups.

I did the "could I buy a better dog?" test and the answer was "NO, I'd rather clone her, never mind breed her" so that'll do me.

I'll be taking her out on 'real' digs this season thanks to a couple of kind invites off here... But like I said, she's bred for me, by me, for the local conditions. That suits, it works, so there's no problem. Fingers crossed they're even better than their parents :good: Just to note:

These pups were legally docked by a vet and will be microchipped and certified at 6 weeks of age, as per the terms of the Animal Welfare Act exemptions. They don't normally get fed where and how the pics show, before anyone says owt btw... I threw some mince down on the floor to keep them still long enough for a few pics lol

Anyway, if you like them as much as I do - cool :) If not and you think I'm a wanker, screw you :D:clapper::laugh::laugh::laugh:

You don't hear of many working Sealyhams these days. They were first bred to work the land local to me here in Pembrokeshire, I believe. :hmm:

Thanks again folks ;) Oh and Maltenby, you're right. The bitch was bred by a guy called Heinien (spelling?!) in Welshpool. Apparently he has a couple of working Sealyhams going back donkeys years, and works them hard to ground. There certainly aren't many left though, capable of working at least. These are out of the right stuff either way, and my bitch has done well in what she's done so far so I have every expectation of the pups. Time will tell.
