Guest lurchers&terriers
there is a lot of so called dog men that don't even exercise there dogs in the summer. Just leave them in the runs or in the garden, I even know of a man that don't exercise his dogs at all in the WINTER because there are no shows, so they get fat and brain dead when they should be working. The people he talks to thinks his dogs are worked because they have scares from kennel fights and he tells them they work. There's no excuses not to exercise your dogs every single day of the year. If you cant do it get a mate to do it. There's a lot of people in the dog world who i believe are not fit enough to have dogs.If you cant feed them everyday, walk them every day or give them somewhere warm dry and comfortable to sleep you should really be thinking weather your fit to have a dog and if you don't give a f**k about dogs and just happy to keep them alive to work for you you shouldn't have dogs. Im getting ready to take them out now, its 2 mile road walk to a river 2to3 along then a nice road walk back. Everyday the get one big walk like this and one or two shorter walks. I love being out with my dogs if there working in the winter or not in the summer. Its a chance to find new spots and earths, keeps the dogs on there toes and helps build a good bond. lurchergrrl 1,441
I think it's good to point out just how important it is to exercise your dogs. There's too many folks think they're happy to lay about doing nowt day after day. Makes for a nervous, unhappy dog which will always lead to trouble: destructive behaviour, aggression etc. I don't really exercise mine much in this weather. It's too fookin' hot for them and the ground is rock hard. Today they came on the school run, had a quick pootle round a field and then spent the day in the garden lolling around and destroying a few of the 10 blades of grass I have left back there. But, in replacement of physical exercise on days like today, I train them instead. Little obstacles in the garden, sit, wait, down etc etc .... mental stimulation is just as important and satisfying for them as physical. And the bond stays strong. If people can't be arsed to exercise and train their dogs they should NOT have them. It's one thing that winds me up. People with any breed of dog, big or small, who think sitting in the house or kennel all day is good enough because it's 'just a dog' Quote Link to post

lurchergrrl 1,441
Problem for me Major is that I've got three little kids. So can't just get up and go whenever I fancy it (sadly). Last thing at night or first thing in the morning is only doable when I can get someone to watch the sprogs. And because of that I change everything else in my daily schedule, to accommodate the dogs and make sure they get what they need. When it's not so hot, and during the rest of the year, I'm out for hours, all over the place mooching around with them. You know what it's like ... frostbitten toes, rain down your back, numb fingers. But hey ho, so long as the dogs are happy Quote Link to post
