A afternoon out

Never trust a weather report. They said, that is was going to rain over the weekend and instead, we had my kind of weather all the way. So I phoned bubble duck and we went out of a mooch at her permission. There was a new place that she has literally tunnelled her way to, trough the brambles and nettles that where tall enough to be felled with a chain saw. The thing is, that the tunnels that she cut through there with her garden scissors, where made by her for her and bubbleduck is not a lot bigger then a rice crispy. So she shot ahead in hobbit style and this old German Gandalph had to try and keep up. After having plucked my hat out of the bramble roof for the 263th time we got to a nice spot and set up for whatever would land in the tree around us. Well 2 minutes after settling in, I spotted a magpie and shot it. It must have had serious hearing problems as not to hear my crunchy style stalking to that spot and probably could not see too well either as it never saw the pellet coming and went down like a sack. We stayed there for about an hour and never saw another bird or squirrel in those oaks so we moved on to another location and after cutting a few smaller branches sat down and waited but this spot was dead so on we went and found a place with some cover and settled in. After a while a woody landed in a tree about 30 yards away and bubbleduck threaded a pellet through the leaves and branches and the pigeon dropped in a puff of feathers. After a while we heard some noises behind us and there, not 10 yards away was a young fox rummaging through the undergrowth looking for some grub and after looking at us for a bit walked of. (must be my beard). Just before we left to go back to the cars, I downed a jay and that was it for the day as far as shooting goes. So, Gandalph followed the rice crispy back through the tunnels , plucking his hat out of the brambles , to the cars. End of day tally, 1 woody, 1 jay and 1 magpie. Most of all though, it was a nice day out with bubbleduck.

Here are a couple of pics.

We couldn't find the jay due to all the thick vegetation, it's like a jungle in most places. There are quite a few jays around the place and sometimes flocks of them suddenly appear in a tree.

The pigeon couldn't be found either, I didn't hear it hit the ground though so it must be still stuck up the tree somewhere.

I'd make a great poacher, any blokes chasing after me would get stuck fast in the gaps I can easily fit through lol!

The embarrassing bit was, that you still had your rucksack on your back when you went through that gap. :icon_redface: :icon_redface:
