stubby 175
no disrespect meant here, but as a new keeper to ferrets (as your other posts) Id not worry about breeding just yet, learn to walk before running Quote Link to post
assasin8or 0
Hi, i'm mew to ferreting and just wondering how old a ferret needs to be beffore it can be used for breeding purposes? hi mate personal preffrence for me is in her second year as this gives her time to mature.aloth i have known people to breed in the first year and have had bad results such as the jill concerned would not feed or intertane her litter so i had to take them to my nerusing jills touch wood all six lived. but on the other hand one of my jills got mixed up when i was on holaday when a friend was looking arter them she had nine small kits all of witch lived. no offence intended but i would onley breed if you want all kits or can get ridof them bred mine this year kept some new blood but having trouble shiffting the rest hope this helps and good luck Quote Link to post
welshshrek 0
Well said lads, manksie why would you wanna breed from them anyway, there are loads kits from good working lines available foc or for a small price (cough £50 quid ferrets )... the point i'm making is that if you have any intention of breeding from your ferrets at any point make sure you have trusted homes lined up as you'll end up right up shite creek and stuck with them... Malt 379
My jill was a year old when she had her litter, she was fine, had 10 & raised 10. You want to ask your self why you want to breed though, I breed purely to increase my own stock, kept 5 and re homed 5. There's no money in breeding ferrets, and there's plenty out there. I'd completly agree with this, very difficult to get GOOD homes for ferrets, especially Hobs. Ferret Rescue centres are very busy and I take my hat of to the people that run these. When your bitch comes in to season I would locate a hob that has been neatured and cover your gill with that. ATB Quote Link to post
droid 11
That'll be a vascectomised hob not a neutered one, Mr Jones? Quote Link to post
