langouroux 14
Hi, I have been asked to do a pest control job ( rabbits near a golf course) and the guy wants to know how much i charge, there is 30 acres of land he cant plant any flowers as rabbits will hammer them straight away , he is going to want me up there lamping most nights ....any ideas guys? i was just gonna ask him to cover my fuel and ammo? but im quite conscious that this will turn into a "job" as opposed to me shooting a doing light pest control because i enjoy it, the customer said that if he could buy a machine gun to " mow them fuckers down" he would ! ......what do ya reckon? SportingShooter 0
Personally, I'd just do it for pleasure but ammo and fuel seems fair Quote Link to post
bignoel 14
if must's give him a hourly + ammo or charge per visit making sure you cover your cost's if its for your own pleasure you can ask for ammo cover petrol is neither here or there as most permissions wouldnt give it to you . got to remember you are looking for the sport .atb noel Quote Link to post

IanB 0
You will struggle real hard to get rid of the majority of them using a gun... So just enjoy yourself and the sport, if your offered cash, say you will put it in the tank for fuel, if he doesn't mind... Quote Link to post

I would say; don't take money yet, tell him you will sort his problem, go for cost only if you really love the sport, but you need to impress on him that you need the help of others ie, a good ferreter. Make sure he's a mate or he'll be there and you'll be gone Quote Link to post

rob reynolds uk 3
if you take it on as a job he will want the job doing right its a bit differant than sport .i know iv been there ..if he is paying by the hour he will want you there doing the time ,hard time a good bloke with a rimmy will do them in a few nights ,dont use dogs or lamps use the rifle first ,then lamps then ferrets ..dont use a dog on the lamp to start with, they will not sit for that shot later when you do use the lamp ,so it has to be rifle first ..get a buyer for them rabbits £1 each is better than nothing unless you have a use for them ..best to just take one price off the chap £100 job done ..just to get the sport ..if you use a rifle shoot and leave them there dont keep going over to pick them up do it before you go .. Jaggsy 25
If you DO decide to take it on as a job dont be frightened of asking for the right money, also, very often people feel they're getting good service if they're paying for something rather than just feeding someones hobby. Years ago i was asked to clear a large warehouse of pigeons, i had no idea what to charge so i rang some major companies to get quotes, Rentokil wanted £1200 (yes thats one thousand two hundred pounds) to put two men on site for two hours Now i'm not saying everyone can charge that they can because they're a major player but it just gives you some idea, HTH Martin Quote Link to post
Magpie 102
I'll tell you now fella. Most professional companies charge between £50 and £ an hour. Rentocrap will be right at the top end of that. They live off their name. long have they been a company of any value pest control wise. The company I work for charges per man hours plus fuel and prep. A recent contract for rabbits on my patch was sold on a 10 visit basis for £2800 per annum. That's for shoots plus ferreting during the winter months. We already have an existing general pest control contract with them so they got it at a discount. Just out of interest rentokil quoted £9000. A 4 hour rabbit shoot on a business park say would cost £750. If I were you I'd think about how long it's goin to take to get the problem under control. How much fuel are you goin to use and how much your prep (ammo) is goin to cost, how long per visit you will spend on site and charge accordingly. You fix your hourly rate at what you want. Don't be afraid to charge for your skills. He might be able to get someone to do it for nothing, but how committed will they be? I've heard loads of people bang on about how they'll do a fantastic job for nothing, but when the land owner/farmer or whoever starts putting pressure on because they ain't cutting it they soon loose interest. Go for it fella it could be the start of something new and exciting for you. Quote Link to post
