Blankney hunt lurcher & terrier show

Recommended Posts

Good company and cracking weather but the show should of had a bull cross class, I had ironed my tracksuit bottoms and wiped down my reebok classics...............

yes i was also disapointed that there was no bull cross class,,,i traveled 2 hours to get to the show with it being Qualifiers for Chatsworth,Countrymans Weekly & Cock of the North,,,also i thought that the judge was an out right prick,,,,what judge smokes while judgeing lurchers in the ring and he never ask the owners to walk the dog around to see the dogs movement ,,, also there was no mixed breed in the terriers there is definately more room for improvment at the show the show has gone down hill in the last few years..

i would say there wants to be some serious thinking going on for next years show and more stands also can you tell me why there was a gun dog scurry at a lurcher and terrier show...

U prob find that the gun dog scurry was part of other classes in kennel yard. Only second time i done the show room for improvment but at least im trying and making a effort, did you ring for shedule to save 2 hr drive no just turn up and moan. Do you run a show if so will come along and see how it should be done or have you never done one.

Where abouts in lincs are you from if you had 2 hr drive as show in mid lincs.

If you can give me your details im looking for a judge for next year you can advise on classes and help us make it a better show.

Good answer Hunt Digger - you'll never please everyone and you could run 50 classes and there'll always be someone moaning that they weren't the right ones. It's bloody hard work running a terrier show - and a bit of appreciation goes a lot further than all the moaning and groaning. At the end of the day, the judge's decision is final - people should respect that even if they don't agree with it - there can only be one winner.

yes it was a nice show , i got a chance to meet up with a few new faces, who i have not met .... we had a good bit of banter , i also would have liked to have seen a bull x class there to, like hunt digger has already said he has only been doing it 2 years, so give the man a chance , i was told he was let down by a few traders which is not very good on there behalf , i aslo did not think much to the the judge but that's my opinion, which i think everyone is entitled to there opinion . but a nice show all in all ....

I too was disgusted by the lurcher judge, ok the guy is maybe a respected coursing man but when i took my 4 month old pup in the puppy class just for abit of socialisation he took his last draw on his fag, dropped it on the floor and blew smoke out as he bent down the go over him, not only that but when he asked how old he was he said it wasn't worth entering one so young!! i think i'll be the judge of that!!

Saying that well done to John for organising the show with virtually no help from anybody else who would rather sit in the beer tent all day yapping

It wasn't a wasted day out as my older dog won his class and got reserve best dog so all that training to hunt rossettes didn't go to waste :whistling:

I agree with Flynn though, in years gone by the field would have been full of cars and the judging would have still been going on at 6 o'clock

look !! hunt digger , i was not the only one moaning , i think you will find out that 90 % of the people were not happy there , you yourself have got to admit that smoking while judging dogs was totally out of order, he never even asked the owners to trot the dogs to see the dogs movement and that is one of the most things you should do as a judge, he was making some dogs yelp when lifting there front legs which was done wrong, i bought 5 dogs with me and only showed 1 because of the way the judge was doing things ...

and for your question do i have anything to do with organising shows the answer is "yes", i help organise to well known hunt shows down south, our shows have already been and i do not wish to be involved in anymore thankyou.. perhaps next year you would like to take a drive over to the gordon mason hunt show and quorn hunt show and pick up a few tips from them .. this is not a sly remark, its just you will pick alot of information and help up from them.... on how it should be done and there is plenty of other hunt shows around that you could attend to see how it could be done ..

another question i will answer for you, i was born and bred in lincolnshire and am proud to say so, thats why it says lincs on my profile ...

if you have only been doing it for two years then perhaps you could ask the lurcher & terrier people what they would like to see at your show , i will start by saying perhaps some lure racing for the lurchers also some trial work and obedience work for the lurchers , i think you will find out that some lurchers are a better trained than the gun dogs ..

this is not a go at you, its just how I and others thought how the show went yesterday ...

there are plenty of good judges about dont just ask the first one you are told about .. the terrier judge was fine he knew his stuff and got on with it , like i have said myself and many others who were there yesterday the lurcher judge was a total prat, you can do better than him i am sure of that ..

im pleased i went to the show, i met some cracking lads with some nice looking dogs, who knew there stuff ... i will attend the show next year and i will come over to you and introduce myself. it was nice to see the famous golly dog and his owner and the lad with the very tidy chocolate bull x who was there with them .....

regards richard

didnt get to watch the lurchers so carnt comment but thought te terrier judge did a good job as he picked my dog as champ haha :D no seriously i thought there were some good terriers there with signs of work and i think he did a good job he looked at all the dogs and knew what he wanted all final terriers were workers :clapper: would of liked to see a bull cross class though golly likes a good sleep in them  thought the set up was good and the people were friendly also the show was entry by donation to which people were putting coppers in or so i was told  the lady seemed quite shocked at my donation and i am not rich so perhaps if we supported these shows a bit better they could run a bit better

thought it was a nice little show personally thought it was good choice of judge refreshing to find a judge who favours an animal built for coursing, rather than a muscle bound show pony or a dog bred more for rounding up sheep. To many anti saluki shows. at least hes walked the walk unlike alot of judges.
