jonathan 0
don't do it when you are ill because the ferrets can catch things Quote Link to post
woodga 170
THERE,S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CONSTANT HANDLING OF YOUNG FERRETS TO GET THEM USED TO BEING PICKED UP IF YOU DONT PLAY WITH THEM AND HANDLE THEM DAILY WHEN THEY TURN ON YOU AND YOUR AWAKE WITH A THROBBING FINGER YOU WILL WISH YOU HAD THE SPIT THING IS JUST THE SALT IN YOUR SALIVA ALL FERRETS WILL LICK IT OFF YOUR HANDS OR FINGERS NOTHING SPECIAL IN THAT AS I SAID BEFORE HANDLING THEM ALL THE TIME WILL PAY DIVIDENDS LATER ON good hunting all woodga  Quote Link to post
jonathan 0
that right and is the best way Quote Link to post
Guest RobW71
Don't mess around when you pick them up, straight in and lift them, dangling fingers will prove a nice target for any Ferret with that edge about it I've got a couple Jills which'll bite if not scooped straight up. Be a confident handler Regards Rob Quote Link to post
Guest wickidweasel
Be a confident handler Regards Rob All the fannying about only seems to encourage biting. Personally i would use milk or something and not risk giving the ferret something from my spit Quote Link to post
Guest Erin go bragh
Aye i do that im not affraid of my ferrets but every time when i sit on the floor to play with them u see my wirst they keep biting the other side and clawing at it lol any idea why and should i not let them do this? My polecat has a problem it is just over 8 weeks old hob it looked like he was trying to squueze his insides out his arse so i brought him to the vet and she told me to put this cream she gimmie on it to stop it from drying up so when it gos to go back in it wont be much of a problem she also gave me therse tablets that dissolve in water that i have to give him a quarter of 1 a day outta a siringe for 8 days has anyone else had this problem before? Guest ferreting king
yes that is true in a way. if you spit on your hand and the ferret licks it up it will then recongine your spit and think of you as the owner. but in some ways it tames them but the best way to tame them is a flick on the nose if they bite you Quote Link to post
SeanTheHawker 0
flicking em will just make em hand shy if you handle em often they will stop nipping, they just do it as there curious. if they bite in 3 months, then maybe use this, but for now there not biter, just kits Quote Link to post

Guest wickidweasel
Nose flicking only seems to piss them off more and knocks kits confidence stick a bit of aftershave on your wrists or somthing. Is it a playfull kit nipping or and agressive adult? or is it the same one with the problem? Quote Link to post
