ellir0305 9
in the grain bagging shed and grain shed up at the farm there are a healthy population of rats (YUK!) after shooting a great big male one earlier sorry no picture btu in comparision to my shoe i measured afterwards i make him out to be about 16 or 17 inches nose to tail. story time aside i want to know the best way to bait rats out and to shoot them in low light conditions (my scope isnt great in low light)is there any way i could back light it or would this makev the rats suspicious. i know they have a poor sense of sight so keeping concealed isnt an issue especially as ther is an unused cowshed opposite which will make a perfect sniping spot. my only other option is to take the ratcatcher once i get some more gas for it which is a bit better scope wise in low light, but i wanted to get started on them with them hw90 asap thanks rob Quote Link to post
cottswood 0
i found that the only bait which worked at a grain shed was the grain itself ,we used to chuck a handfull into some pallets about 5 high which meant there were a few layers which the rats would be in where they would eat the grain as they arent suspicious of it and treat the crates as a safe place so would stay long enough to get a couple of shots off Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
they cant see red, but they can see light intescity...as in brightnes. come twightlights theyve got sharp eyes because they see in UV, twighlights the highest UV concentration. put a dwindly torch up somewhere but leave it on. Guest air gunner
I hear soup works well cos they cant run off with it. Quote Link to post
MR TEA POT 1,287
Get a cheap tin of dog food, punch some holes in the side then stand on it to squash it a bit and that lets all the juices run out BUT not the meat and the rats will sit there and lap it up allowing time for as shot. Worked for me Quote Link to post
ellir0305 9
i got another one the other day. this one was 18 inches that the biggest ive ever shot or trapped. but the big daddy is sill there hes much bigger i'd say 21" + the rat catcher has been working well but ive got to get a proper silencer for it, the peanut butter baiting didnt work so i think i might try MR T's idea of dog food. they seem to be more wary in the daytime now a few of their mates have been blasted but the farmer is certainly happy Quote Link to post
