Try shooting next to a .50 with a brake ! The blast presses your eye balls and makes your lungs move. And makes a .308 sound like an air rifle.

Somebody's got to be joking round here. When the Army was using 7.62x51 they didn't give ear muffs to the likkle boys who didn't like the horrid noise of the gun going off bang. Try putting 10 through a 7.7x57/.303 Lee-Enfield in one minute. Then imagine all yer oppo's up and down the line doing the same for hour on hour in the trenches . . .

 that's why the "likkle boys" who survived were all deaf as posts, poor sods...not to be advised surely?

With your obvious knowledge, shouldn't you be encouraging what is mostly young men to protect their hearing, not talk down to them??? Or perhaps a hearing aid is the mark of a "hard man"??? I'm so out of touch with fashion accessories... :duh:

Ear defenders all the way Hyp!!! :clapper: I decided long ago, that I much preferred the slightly muffled world on a temporary basis, as in whilst defenders are on, than living with it permanently.

Sorry if I seemed to talk down to anyone. :sorry: I was extracting the urine. I entirely agree about ear defenders. It used to be possible to get industrial ear plugs which allowed sound up to 85db to pass but blocked higher energy sound waves. Great if you can wear plugs but people with small ear canals need over-the-ear protection. As you say, nothing sissy about taking care of your body. You only get one . . . Ric
