flytie 1
Forestry Commision made them compulsory for their employees to protect their hearing. I value my hearing so i use a mod on my rifle. I use ear defenders when using a shotgun too, unless it's warm when i will use ear plugs. ft Quote Link to post
dicehorn 38
hi all. is there any main advantage to having a sound mod whilst stalking? is it just used to protect your own hearing e.g stalk without ear defenders to hear whats going on... i have known several disintergrate while being used on a centre fire rifle , they seem more trouble than what they are worth and you still have the sonic boom anyway ,no doubt someone will have a different oppinion ,for stalking you only usually get one shot so i do not bother about the noise factor . i think they are a pile of shite on a big rifle Not sure how much stalking you have done with the "for stalking you only usually get one shot " I have emptied my magazine several times when hind culling and many times a couple of does. I also cull farm deer where a mod is essential. Sound Mods are the way to go - many times I have had two/three foxes out in front of me - a sound mod disguises where the sound comes from and I have has the survivor run towards me - had I had an unmoderated rifle that fox would have taken off directly opposite from me. I shoot with Wildcat mods and have never had a problem - as for muzzle breaks Hmmmm......... A properly fitted mod makes no difference to your rifle's accuracy whatsoever. HTH Quote Link to post
humperdingle 0
I have a Predator 8 Mod on my .22-250, and it makes a HUGE difference in blast reduction. Obviously it's still fecking loud, but a lot quieter than if I didn't have it. As for stalking, I'd probably just keep it on, although it does add a fair bit of weight to the rifle. Fidgety 8
Mod totally transformed the shooting on my .243 ........ was an evil loud beast with a nasty recoil, now a pleasure to shoot. Quote Link to post
rob reynolds uk 3
less recoil which means less jump on the scope may help to see the hit which is very usefull ,less noise, the down side is there to much money for what they are .£180 plus if its any good mine was £250 now £299 for same mod ..i do think you need one ..
