Branch 0
Hello! I’m after some advice. I would like too get hold of a lurcher but am un sure of what cross to get. Preferably I would like a dog that has brains and steadiness a plenty so i'm thinking collie. But then what? I will be lamping and ferreting mostly but don’t want a big (tall) dog but don’t know if I can handle the attitude of a whippet. As you have already gathered this will be my first lurcher so training will be new to me also. Any suggestions?? Quote Link to post

They usually make around 22-24'' ats. I've have found this cross to be one of the easiest lurchers to train. Quote Link to post

Pennymeadow Whippets 0
A good whippet is more than able to do the things you want from your post but different people like different breeds Quote Link to post
Sorley x 32
Try a 3/4 Greyhound 1/4 collie bitch easier to train than a straight half cross, esp if you are new to the game. good luck and keep us all posted Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
This may sound far from topic but, i watched a DVD lately called the rabbiting man part 1. In it, theirs a deadly lurcher, fawn in colour, does anyone know if this is a 3/4 greyhound, 1/4 collie? Cheers, Frank. Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
collie x greyhound a problem you might get if its really intelligent is it will test how far it will go my pup is about 17 weeks old and is already retrieving the length of the garden Quote Link to post
Kane 2
If it is a rabbit only dog you want then collie x is a good bet if your main love is ferreting a 1st x but if its the lamping you like more ten a 3/4 dross or you could go for a 3/8 5/8ths lol. If it is just for rabbiting mate then any smallish lurcher should do you, some collies can be b*****ds to train so dont expect it all to happen over night lol.JMO Quote Link to post
dodger 2,765
I dont think you will go far wrong with either a beddlington whippet greyhound or a collie x.Good luck whatever you choose. Quote Link to post
