punydan 0
Do ferrets get poisoned by lead? I think I know the answer to this but ask anyway. And if they do, as I suspect, how do you safely feed them on shot game? Quote Link to post

billbroon 9
2 weeks ago in countryman weekly there was an article about a GOSHAWK that got lead poisoning from a either a rabbit or a game bird that it had caught and got to eat as treat so sounds possible to me, prob best just being carefull just in case. Hob&Jill 258
Ferrets digestive systems are so quick I doubt it would have chance to do anything much even if they did swallow. Quote Link to post

droid 11
Worth remembering that lead is a cumulative poison: it remains in the body a long time, and lots of little doses have the same effect (eventually) as one big dose. Quote Link to post
punydan 0
Thanks for all the replies, it seems that it is safe enough to feed them on shot game. Which is a relief as this is what I aim to feed mine on. I am guessing that they can get piosoned from heavy metals as can any living creature, but obviously not so prone as birds. It was the afore mentioned article in countrymans that prompted my querry. Quote Link to post
