Just pondering

I am building this garden summerhouse/ pavilion/shed at the bottom of the garden at the moment and I have to put 60 .. yes that a six with a zero stuck to the right hand side of it little glass panes in the windows and doors. So that's the said bits of glass held by four strips of wood each and them held by two steel pins each. It a boring task and I wonder if I should finish it as its going to take some time.

Is it in fact worth finishing because if we aren't wiped out by global warming or when the sun 'dies' we will get caught by 'death by wobbling'.

Apparently the moon is moving away from us at 2cm per year. At some point in the future it's grvitational effect will cease to be sufficient to maintain the earth's rotation as it currently is (slightly tilted / essential to maintain the seasons). The earth's rotational axis will then wobble by up to 90 degrees and weather patterns will be well and truly screwed.

On the bright side I suppose we don't have to move our towels up and down the beach as there won't be any tides.

So what do you think, should I carry on putting them glass bits in that shed or is it not worth bothering about?

Please don't remind me of that job........ I still have to cut a load of slate into tile shape to make a surrounding for the new fire place. The neighbours are going to love me with all that black dust as all I have is a 230mm angle grinder with a diamond disk on it. Their washing is not going to be just dry when they take it in.

If I were you, and I wanted to look out of said windows, then I would want one piece glass windows and doors, or you may find you spend most of your time looking around the the wood surrounding the small panes, just a thought. :)

i lit the wood burner on wednesday night, IN MID JUNE crazy

Not at all, 3 nights out of five I have the gas fire on at night while I sit here typing. They should make keyboards 6 feet wide, then I would get a bit of night time exercise.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news........but do you really think anything we do now will make a difference???

We wont know it in our lifetime, but the people i feel for, are the tribes who live a pure life, live sustainably, want for nothing and more importantly ask for nothing...........our repayment is detsruction of the natural world and infringing on their lives............our government needs to answer more than our hunting ban!!!!!!!!!!!!

it takes around 8mins for the sun's rays to reach Earth, so if the sun does die on us you can enjoy your last 8 mins lookin at something you worked hard on to achieve

then realise that in less than 8mins ther'l be no warmth and we'll all die and then you'll think what a f****n waste of time and energy and you'll be so pissed off you'll smash it yourself :)

but when it is done you can sit in there and smile at your hard work :D

I really can't see why you're even bothering to think that far ahead, Michael.

When that .25 Baracuda launched by Korea touches back down, we've all had it.

Cheers.

You have a point there andy. But..........................

- the moon, when it collided with Earth, caused to have the tilt it does thereby giving us the seasons we know.

- without the moon the Earth's rotational axis would not be at all steady.

- there is evidence that the gravitational pull of the moon is at least a contributory factor in volcanic and earthquake activity.

- It used to be much closer to the Earth, I'll bet that made a good nighttime sky?

Besides the effects of 'local problems' we also have another galaxy heading our way which will crash into the Milky Way one day + there is believed to be a super black hole (not just an ordinary one!) towards the centre of the Milky Way and Lex Luthor is up to no good again .............. no, wait, that's a cartoon.

Eventually no new stars will be created and further on every star in the universe will run out of energy and there will be no light. I suppose that's if we don't all get sucked into black holes first and, apparently, even they will "evaporate" into nothing by leaking particles?

I'm not happy.

I wonder if the universe is God's posh equivalent of a lava lamp?

I suppose, when everything is sucked into blackholes and there is only one left then maybe it will explode and ..................... this makes my head hurt. I don't even understand the simple explanations these scientists give. They be talking complete and utter bollocks? Who'd know?

Stephen Hawking for PM.
