terrier collers

we never had locaters when i started out, a bar, a spade, and a good dog, i think locaters have wrecked terriers and terrier work, but thats only my thoughts, half the fun was a good dig, with yer pals, a flask of tea, bottle of beer, a good cheese and pickle sarniea and the craic, locaters are the ruin of all decent terrier work and good dogs, , but they will, help you out and cut time, how ever did we get on without them, any thoughts on that?

Some relatives never used them, normally just a spade, and crowning, mind you these earths were worked for a lot of years and most werent deep, a lot of the time got the quarry and dog out, dont really think they used a Bar either.

Mind this was a long time ago.

quality days,i can remember, one dig my old lakie dog, was down for 2 days, after bolting two,no collar, on noise, and the lads came out, man they was good to see, we got him , 18ft down, and charlie,in chalk hard going, every spit was hard work, too deep for locaters, they are a good thing in that respect.

its funny you say that as i visit a known terrier man now and again and he says the same, the storys he tells me when there was no locaters about are out of this world and very intresting, he says the same as you as the locater is needed but its taken the true tester away from a good working dog

Your friend is right locators make it a lot safer for the dog they are also becoming the runation of the working terrier.A lot of people now are putting in bull blood and are turning dogs in to mute workers. If a dog was mute before he was put down he was as usefull as an ashtray on a motor bike. Also with locators dogs are dug to a lot quicker and get the name Good workers after one or two hours to ground. But would he have stayed nine hours to ground or two days to ground.I also believe a lot of terrier men would not have the skill to locate a dog with no locator except in very easy places
