this is what ive been told if you start them to yung they will loses interest in the sport or start yaping at the rabbits while chaseing them i was told to start whith the retriving first then the jumping like puting a baby gate up and throw teddy or skin over it and get them to bring it back to hand to make a game out of it so they enjoy it and give a bit of a treat but dont spoil them with it leav them wanting more.then any were between 8 month and a year old when ever you think they are ready start them on the lamp or out in the day with an expirianced dog and let them watch a few runns then give your dog a run on a squater or a easy run ;)

Spot on, my dog 1x collie grey , had 100 rabbits, few bigger rabbits in the lamp last season, not bad for 19 month old young dog. He is 24 in 59 lb, started him 11 1/2 months. He as caught 8 day time rabbits mooching about, he is getting better all the time.

ive tried everything mate ,had her litterally stoood over a rabbit shaking and waits and waits for it to bolt before striking, mid field rabbits instead of running at them she will creep 200 yards a couple of inches at a time and sit there until it moves its infurating shes caught about 5-6 rabbits and retrieved to hand ,but she has only ever got into 5th gear one night out with a lad of here, the rest of the time you can see shes not really intrested im hoping its a phase but im very dubious at the momment ,hopfully a rest will do her good and renew her prey drive.

How is it Bred,?? did you start her on the lamp 1st or mooching.?? I took Bryn lamping 1st, put him on squatter. Obviously didnt see it, knocked it up for him. And bang his [1st] rabbit, and he as i said gone from Strenght- Strenght. :victory: Try her in sep on the lamp, find some daft easy rabbits

you should be ok once it nails a few. Day time will feck a pup up, unless you go ferret'n.??

shes a 4th generation bull greyhound i bred her out of my dog rio shes double bred to him hence the reduction in size ,i tried her lamping 1st tried her on a easy squatter middle of a large field she just watched run away and half heartly chased it only when it ran ,before this i took her out and she watched rio picking them up easily and occasionaly he will stalk up to them and nik them out of there seat ,but only if there near a hedge if mid field he runs right at them ,dont know if shes picked this up off of him or not ,ive tried her about 20 times now shes still crap im going out with a couple off lads off here tonight so i will see if shes any better tonight.if not may just give her a long break till october

bull, nia also stalks them and it is due to running to hard a rabbits in her case daytime. i myself dont find it a problem but she steps it up when there is movement.

however i can understand your problem as she is still very young and has no reason to act like that. anyway i hope she comes good as i have a soft spot for that little bitch.

Just picturing your dog stalking, you might be working it off the lead or giving it long slips hence the dog getting chance to stalk! Try walking onto the rabbit if the dog goes into stalking mode on the lead pull him forward keep walking when the rabbit leaves the seat give it a few meters head start then slip ya dog. your dog wont get chance to stalk this way and should soon drop the habbit of stalking. Try just lamping with it for a month or two this allows you to get a bit closer to quarry, if it hasnt been over lamped. Keep it on the lead then your in control, if your in control he wont be able to stalk. Good luck with ya pup!

nope none of that mate she was started on mid field squatters some were 4 foot away just developed this stalking mode ,anyhow good news went out last night and she had a couple of slips and didnt do it even on the squatter im not saying shes cured but its a step forward she really wanted it last night had a couple of good runs speed was up and prey drive increased ,she also showed she might have a little bit of bottle in there somwhere to my utter suprise lol
