Holdaway 2
Having seen no squirrels since Christmas (not in numbers anyway) numbers have exploded recently. Foxes, rabbits, rats, crows, rooks and magpies have all featured heavily. I have put up posts of the squirrels I have been taking so I won't bother with them, but here are a few pics of other things. 32 grey squirrels on four properties in 110's, kania and with AA S410 11 jackdaws from chimneys 3 crows 2 rooks 38 rabbits 3 foxes 8 rats 2 jays 3 moles all in the past couple of weeks. Off to see some stables today which are 'over run' with rabbits (I've heard that before...) so will put some pics up in the next couple of weeks of a few wires. All the best H Quote Link to post

stephen58 1
Hi Dave , I ,m looking forward to seeing you on Monday mate I am dying to have a look at these stable,s and how big was that snare hoop that the fox walked through red or white wine ?? best regards STEVE Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Steve, that noose was about 11 inches across, under a gate with only about 8 inches showing, a couple of inches above the first spar to break up the outline and still the bloody thing walked through! It was disappointing to get it hip snared but it had to go one way or another. We will be getting more chooks in the next few weeks (free range of course) and so the snares will be staying put. Looking forward to meeting you too mate, which stables are you talking about? The ones I went to see today? When the girl said they were over run by rabbits I thought 'here we go, another one exaggerating' but no, over run they are... Can't wait to finally get stuck into some decent numbers. Poor girl was under the illusion that I wanted a £250 retainer for culling the rabbits... I told her a tin of pellets was enough You should have seen her face! She asked if I wanted the job for life! It's going to be a tough one for me though as the horses in the paddocks are only taken in between 8 at night and 5 in the morning... So fence snares will be the best option for now. Holdaway 2
Hi Grant. The cubby is slanted both front and back (run through cubby). The trap is held in place by goal post effect of excess mesh cut off when making the cubbies, these are held in place with fencing rings. There is another piece that swings down to sit between the upper jaws of the body grip, this prevents the trap from tipping forward or back and makes it very stable, allowing this model to be used even on end attached to the trunk of trees for squirrels. Contact Alan Salmon (the maker) known on here as MasterHunter and I am sure he will happily knock some up for you. All the best H Quote Link to post

stephen58 1
Hi David , thoughly enjoyed my day with you on Monday , all the tips and little wrinkles you taught me on snaring / trapping was fantastic , you are a great teacher , the only thing i could liken it to , would be having a one to one with the Grand~Master ( have yer got your fecking ears paint on AKA Snareman ) your generosity / hospitality was second to none , what with all the snares /tealers etc and knowledge you sent me home with was amazing the break~aways are definately the way forward , I think I might have solved a certain plastic tube problem for you and I loved that little metal clip you devised for my plastic rat snaring whips I,ll give you a ring A.S.A.P knowing what akward hours you work , best regards STEVE Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Nice to meet you at long last Steve. haven't opened a second bottle yet but cheers! All the info I can pass on I'm happy to, it all came from Snareman anyway! Happy to help out and if you feel like dropping by again sometime maybe we can sort a bunny out or two. All the best D PS. Off to the stables today and for the next three days, after I've sorted my work out anyway... Quote Link to post
