kristian 9
I'm thinking of getting a corn snake, has anyone on here got/had snakes and do they recomend a corn snake or something else as a first snake? are they easy to keep? Do they just eat pinkies or other things aswell? my missus won't let me have one as her mother is scared of them but i'm sure i can talk her round lol. Just really want to know of anyone having experience with them. Cheers, Kristian.
stealthy1 3,964
Once had one of the orange corn snakes, kept getting out of the tank and into the airing cupboard and sh*tting on the clean sheets, so it had to go.
trapperman 474
i used to breed corn snakes and royal pythons corn snakes are lovely to keep and will get very tame just be careful when you get a new baby corn as they are very small and fast and i lost one of mine down the floorboards they will start on pinkies and slowly move up in what they can eat they grow quickly in the first couple of years and get a thermostat for your heat pad to keep it at the right temp. hope this helps

TIMMAY 6
Used to work as the exotics specialist for a chain of petshops in south wales, mainly been into lizards, but have kept rough scaled greens, and royals. Corns are 'the' starter snake, and never had a problem with one that was sold, good feeders once started, and easy to keep. Having said that i wouldn't beput off from having most of the rat, king or milk snakes as a first snake if any of them particularly take your fancy, they can be a little trickier, but not much. If you want info on good shops in south wales give me a pm and try and make sure you don't get ripped off!
JordKil 0
Iv got bull snakes (nasty b*****ds) and a royal python. I prefer royals as a start but corns are good but i like bigger snakes lol. My mate's got macklots pythons and a yellow anaconda. He used to have mangrove snakes and flying snakes now they were cool but 'semi' venomous. I used to work in a reptile shop with hundreds of little b*****d corns, kings, pythons and boas of all shapes sizes and bites! They are pish easy to keep just get a good stat mat and to start its best to use contico/really useful boxes as they are near enough escape proof (remember airholes!!!!) Ballybricken 1
Corns are a decent starter snake .. have kept and bred many various morphs but in my opinion they lack a certain snake like feel .. if that makes sense. Much prefer the boids (pythons and boas) .. And a Royal would make just as good a starter snake if not better as there not as flighty as a corn in general. Only problem with Royals is they can be fussy when it comes to feeding. Sets ups are a piece of piss and theres more than enough sites on the old internet if you ever get stuck with anything! Good luck mate.

Guest Scuba1
I kept Burmese pythons and retics and did have a ball python for a while as well. I think that a corn snake is better for a beginner then a ball python as pb's can be a bit iffy as far as feeding goes and that is more stressful to the new snake owner then for the snake, but there you go. Anything you want to know, just send me a pm ATB Michael
