Big black birds, head or chest?

Recommended Posts

Hi All, it's no doubt been asked a gazillion times before, but the lady who owns my permission has asked me to, *ahem*, harass some big black birds who are killing all the songbird chicks and scoffing the eggs etc. No doubt crows 'cos I caught one 'inspecting' one of my shot bunnies last time I was there. To the point, with a .177 S400, which is the best option for clean kills?

Just to chuck the cat amongst the big black birds...... :D

It all depends on the range, your shooting, etc, but as long as they end up with a clean death, it doesn't matter. ;)

Having said that, it is always good practice to aim for the head.

in my somewhat limited experience crows have chestbones like rock so a headshot is best ;)

by which i mean i am not a professional pest controller. i take head shots wherever as it is best practice. you can kill a rabbit by karate chopping it but i prefer to strech them as its better practice. i have put 3 number 6 shot through the side of a crows chest before and it still tries to hop away so they are still tough birds.

just my way of doing things

but if it drops it why not i suppose

Bit hard to distinguish in amongst all those tail feathers. I was out with a mate a while back who took a bunny up the chuff with his .22 rimmy. Made the loudest 'plop' noise, kinda like scooping a large spoon of jelly from a bowl....How we laughed!!
