Thanks superted for your answer, I suppose you did not have to learn because you knew it all anyway, like I have said that is why us youngings dont like asking questions because of your kind of comments. lurcherjam Quote Link to post

GameBirdMeg 21
its down to the new owner to chip, im absent minded so tend to forget that bit it is not up to the new owner to chip it gets done with same vet then upto new owner to reg him as new owner of pup the pup has to be chipped by the time it is 6months old. As far as I was aware the law didn't state who by however I heard it was changing to that they had to be chipped at the time of docking which is ludicrous as the pup would far too small!! jenksi87 3
pups arent too small to get chipped at that age. the chip is only like a small grain of rice. you can have them docked, dew clawed and chipped for £35 per pup which i dont think is bad at all Quote Link to post
lurcherjam 1
Thamks lads for all the advice I have received, I have now been sorted out. lurcherjam Quote Link to post
BRYKAY 2
THERES NO BIG DEAL OR SECRET IN CUTTING PUPS TAILS, GET 3X2 TIMBER BLOCK, A GOOD NEW STANLEY BLADE, PUT THE PUPS TAIL ON THE 3X2 AND CUT OFF MORE THAN HALF THE TAIL, TRY IT ON A FAG / CIGARETTE FIRST, THEN DO IT TO THE TAIL, HAVE SOME ONE HOLD THE PUP IF YOUR A BIT NERVOUS, ALL YOU GET IS A FEW DROPS OF BLOOD, THEN PUT THE PUPS BACK WITH THE MOTHER, THERE ARE VERY FEW NERVES IN THERE TAILS AT 1-3 DAYS OLD, AND THEY WONT BLEED MUCH, SOME DAY YOU WILL DO IT , SO WHY NOT DO IT NOW.. HERES A LONG DEBATE COMING IM THINKING p***y.... YOU SAY MORE THAN HALF THE TAIL TO COME OFF? IM OLD SCHOOL DOCKER BEFORE ANY BAN APPEARED BUT SURLEY ONE THIRD TO BE TAKEN OFF IS A BETTER LENGTH? MORE THAN HALF WOULD BE TO SMALL TO BE USED FOR WHAT THE TAIL IS MEANT FOR. MINE ALLWAYS TURNED OUT THE WIDTH OF YOUR PALM, CHEERS. Quote Link to post
Guest mk3
i agree 1/3 or use 50p as a rough guide, jimmy over the years i have bred and most my life been around peaple with working terriers including after the stupid new law , trust me mate its down to the owner and any vet can do it not just the vet what docked them(what i dont understand is why any terrier man would want there dog chipping) it all spells trouble to me Quote Link to post

(on the 1/3 and the chipping). The pup just has to be chipped before 6 months. Doesn't matter by who so long as they are a vet or a qualified implanter like myself. I personally get mine chipped before they go because if the owner didn't get it done i wouldn't want it coming back on me... MK3, apparently (though I must admidt I haven't ever done it)...The chip registrations forms can be sent in blank. Therefore the dog is chipped just the chip is not registered to anybody... someone off here told me.. With the microchips, my suppliers keep all the barcode/chip info so if a dog had gone missing and was found and scanned and there was no details of the owner on the database they would contact my supplier as they can follow the path where it got sold to and they can ask me if I knew the owners details. (so i could say no, but have kept my own records to the side so could then contact the owner) Apparently anyway! lol Quote Link to post

The needles are quite large to implant the chip with! Also to get nice and accurate between the shoulder blades to prevent the chip from moving 7-8weeks is a far better age. Quote Link to post
Guest mk3
as the pup grows the chip could end up any where under the skin of the dog(7/8 weeks best age) Edited June 18, 2009 by mk3 Quote Link to post
