red dog 3
A couple of years a go someone bought a Polecat hybrid kit at scone. She was named WHIZZ as she moved fast. When you tried to pick her up, she turned and bit, repeatedly 3 times to the bone then locked her jaws. Tried ferreting with her but she was a buggar to catch when out of the hole, Kept slipping her locator didnt make any difference how tight tou fastend it to her. At this point she was renamed FANG. Had her ferreting one summers day and she came out of the hole and chased my partner up and down the field in her bare feet, i nearly pissed my self laughing. One day i used her on some easy holes which were unhabitated to try her out, she stuck her head out and when i went in she disapeared again, tried digging her out but only found the locator. Dug and dug and the burrow narrowed so i dont know if rats had been in the hole, tried a dead rabbit but she wanted to drag it into the hole and let go when i tried to drag her out, she was quick and smart. Dug for about 3 hours and as it was getting dark i filled in the hole in, next day i saw a hole where she had dug her self out, no sign of her for about 10 days, Was trapping rats at the time and one had its head chewed off, the next day i caught FANG in one of the Rat traps. She had lost a lot of weight, later swaped her to a polecat man for another ferret. Ive learned my lesson and wont be getting any more Polecat Hybrids. i had the same problem, but used her for a brood bitch and fosterd her young to ferret to make handling easer, found the third generation were the best, great rabbiters but jibbed on stubborn rats. Branch 0
I have a 'polecat' Jill which I rescued off a bloke in a pub you know the type of bloke seen it all and caught the lot! She was in a bad way when I picker her up 2 years ago and after a lot of rabbits she started to look really good and this summer I have had a litter out of her and she is an amazing mother but a total bitch to handle even before she gave birth it was a hit and miss affair. And I have handled her daily for the past 2 years so if she really is a true polecat as the bloke claimed I would rather not bother with them again. BUT…. She is very small (again a preference with some), deadly on rats and is a good mother so with a bit of luck the kits could be potentially superb!! :11: P.S true polecat for sale £30!!!
