SNAP SHOT 194 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Share Posted June 16, 2009 i'd personally put up a large sign saying NOTICE in large writing as a header.... keep it friendly saying that due to health and safety reasons, all dogs MUST be kept controlled while crossing private lands, And that you have no objection to walkers with controlled dogs, however dogs running free may scare animals leading to stampede or injury, of which the owner of the dog will be held to incur all costs For damage or loss to livestock. kennyboy 1 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Share Posted June 16, 2009 (edited) Ive just bought some more land in the next villiage and my partner has spent the last few days, cutting/turning the grass on the field for us to bale it today. He's spent most of the day at the field and he has counted atleast 5 lots of dog owners excercising there dogs off the leads in this field. The field is entered by a Devon County maintained style and it clearly has atleast 2 signs on it telling dog owners to keep there dogs under control and on leads. Ive always believed that the laws are the same as dogs being walked on a public footpath next to a highway that they must be on a lead. Can somebody please tell me the laws on this, im going to contact our local dog warden tommorow and see if he can shed any light on this. Im planning on mix grazing it at the weekend with a few broodmares/foals and some cattle and im not going to be impressed if any of my livestock get hurt. Back in the day, 1970s-ish, I remember being taught the highway code and countryside code at primary school. We had Tufty the squirrel keepin us safe on the roads. Anyone remember the orange reflective armbands? All my peers where members of The Tufty Club. I can't remember who/what was the countryside champion but we where taught basic countryside manners. Leave gates as you find them, don't run through a crop walk round the border, and keep dogs on a lead near livestock. It is a pity that as the population becomes more urbanised we no longer have respect for those who work the land. Funny thing is that most anti's are urbanites and their mongrels cause more suffering to livestock while people who enjoy the countryside have the most respect. And they take the high ground? One sign i always remember seeing was. Could you cross this field in 9.8 seconds cos my Bull can cross it in 10, with a picture of an angry Bull Mars.. I WAS OUT LAST NIGHT WITH THE DOGS I HAVE TO SAY THEM BULLS DO SCARE ME WHEN THAY START GETING TO CLOSE Our bull is too docile to cause anyone any trouble, mind you if i see any dogs upsetting my mares i will be across the field in 9.5 seconds Quote Link to post Share on other sites
