You Couldn't Make it Up........

Recommended Posts

I'd be the last person to defend over pricing, but...................

the one thing you have to remember is that the bigger a company is, the higher it's overheads will be. Pretty ladies to answer the phone cost money, as do managers, surveyors, health and safety consultants, laptops, servers, and all the other crap that goes with running a big concern.

I always used to say to my staff, "you either cost this company money or you make money to pay for everyone else. The only people in a pest control company who make money are the technicians. Without them, the rest of us would be fecked, so in a way, we all work for them".

One mistake that small pest control businesses often make is to worry too much about what everyone else charges. Work out your costs, and from that you should be able to work out what to charge. Feck the rest of em.

This argument can and does rage on in every form of business, the small company's accuse the big companys of being rip off merchants as a sales tool to secure themselvs business and the big companys carry on charging big money because like already mentioned they are big companys, and like GM has said if they charged the same fee as the smaller companies youd find alot of them would struggle big time.

one problem with big companies (as matt the rat stated) is that theres lots of workers other than the tech's

our company has, shall I say, a surveyor that wouldent know his arse from his elbow, he constantly either underprices on very big jobs, or under estimates the time limit, and has admitted to myself and other tech's, that its because of "his commission" which gets paid to him, when the job is accepted, rather than when its finished, all he see's is ££££££ signs, rather than the actual problem

"we are a large organisation" can justify ripping of old ladies who dont know how to shop around :big_boss:

I totally agree with what your saying mate, and alot of the comments on that link, and its still very much like that today, and to be honest i cant see it changing anytime soon, like most big companys we are run by accountants, sales people and corporate politics, in a way these people are just professional money makers and savers, they dont care how they do it just as long as they do it and make their bonus by the end of the month, they are just as at home selling kitchens as they are selling pest control and if a client wanted to hire two techs for an afternoon to dress up as clowns for a kids party if the money was right theyd bloody sell it! nobody gets more pissed off with these monkeys than me but its just a fact of life with any large organisation, and the one small plus side i take from these idiots is when after theve spoken and sold alot of complete rubbish to a client i get to go in and look bloody brilliant when i fix it!! lol
