i think everyone is talking about something different here

 

smithfield colies are exstint

 

jeff burel breeds mongrels with huskey blood in them

 

he can call them what he wants if it makes his wallet fatter

 

is a tumbler not a just dog what tumbles?

thats exactly what i was thinking regardless of looks/lines etc if it tumbles its a tumbler, dogs bred from tumblers just have the gene in em not necessarily the characteristic tumble. id like to hear from anybody that has a lurcher that does tumble

 

According to Jeff " The word Tumbler describes the style of catching and the structure for it " they do not tumble in the literal way, they strike the back of their quarry using their superior agility and acceleration......

I doubt Genes come into it, rather bred for certain " Traits ".

i for one would love my bitch to have these super traits, my dog tumbles a few times a night if its busy but like i said she`s a racy type mongrel that only catches every so often

 

 

these traits seem to have been quite deirable back in the day, so why did they dissapear once lamping had come into play, surely if striking the back of the preys legs is a good characteristic why are there not more lurchers with this trait

 

These " traits " are still desirable today,i think we all look for these don`t we? i`ve seen many dogs take their prey by its back legs, Whippets for one, agility and acceleration are key components in the lurcher makeup amongst others, men have strived for years to breed the perfect dog with the right mix of traits, and will continue for many more, thats what keeps this game interesting

 

 

if the norfolk tumble was renowned for these traits[which we still look for in these dogs] why the hell have they become so scarce, you would think a [type] of dog with a certain desirable trait would be prolific. usually types only become rarer when there style of hunting is no longer desirable :search:

 

I don`t know why mate, to me the "tumbler" is as rare as the the Dodo, but the traits agility and acceleration are as prevelant today as they were years ago, styles of hunting may change but these two key traits will always be desirable as long as their prey also has agility and speed. The supposed " Tumbler " has no secret ingriedient in its make up, most running dogs on this site posses these superior traits, they prove it to us time and time again in the field.

Like i`ve stated on here in a previous post i don`t get involved in any of these discussions much, but.....

 

This bitch is off Jeff`s line, Chewi off this site bred her out of Hawker, she may be a " mongrel with Husky blood " in her but i can assure you she works , she cost me £100. Like a few on here i`ve read Jeff`s stories from his site.........i took most of it with a pinch of salt, i couldn`t give two hoots if its from an ancient line bred down from the Celts or a Norman Lord

 

Having owned her for a few years i think i know whats really in her make up...........she`s a " Potlicker x Sleddog " with a dash of stealth poaching dog in there somewhere
