scottish air gun ban!

Recommended Posts

It makes full sense many people in cities own air guns most of which are probably very responsible and go out of town to permissions however some as you say "t!ts" see them as toys like a bb gun. This being the case it would be hard to destinguish who is who and whether they are fit to own such a weapon. Everyone rack your brains so we can help make an educated proposal to the goverment.

what about a manditory test, eg. safe shots to take and what are not, identifieing quarry?

so if you pass thats your license kind of thing?

what will people who have been hunting all there lives think when they have to go take a bulls*it test to see if they can shoot straight

Hi mate i dont agree.I think it was me that made that QUOTE. And yes when it comes to people telling me what i can or cant do because they dont like it. I get an ATTITUDE.Not having a go mate. They made it quite clear that airguns and line fishing was next. After they. :censored: us on fox and hare. What next will we have to prove we have rabbit ground to own a Lurcher or a ferret.Thease f--kers will never stop untill they get the lot. They are not happy with having there cake and eating it.They want all of ours too.And i mean all.So i say never give an inch. Not on anything.atb. I think it was Charlton Heston who first made that quote but I'm sure he'll let you use it. On a couple of other forums I'm quite outspoken about fox hunting and the right of people to do it. I've never rode to hounds but will defend anyones right to do it. Many shooters especially those who shoot only airgun were/are against fox hunting and were of the opinion that they should distance themselves from it in an attempt to protect their sport. For years I've appealed for unity amongst those that are involved in fieldsports, that means airgunners defending the rights of foxhunters and foxhunters defending airgunners. The attitude taken by many will come back and bite them on the arse. I was reading a post in the shooting section earlier where a fox shooter was being slagged off by a couple of guys who run dogs. The government will do their best to divide us, as they did during the lead up to the foxhunting ban where they were advocating the shooting of foxes and seemed to be on the side of shooters. There were many shooters on many forums distancing themselves from fox hunting and in some cases attacking it. The government don't need to divide us, we do a good enough job on our own. There are many aspects of fieldsports that I don't do, but I'll never turn my back on those people that do because I'm well aware that we are only a few out of the countries population and we need to stick together. As soon as all the shooting's banned, fishing will be next and then pet ownership and then who knows. (These are actual mission goals of the various anti groups). Maybe it's time to grow up and accept another mans sport and stop keep trying to slag everyone off because you don't agree with what they do. You'll find there's plenty of people who don't agree with fieldsports and they'll keep coming after us picking small sections of us off until we are no more.

I don't do fat birds but know plenty of blokes that do, I never question it, it's their choice. Besides, it keeps the chunky feckers out of my way!!!!

well said yeeharr ,united we stand divided we fall ,what you say is exactly what my uncle used o say ,first fox hunting then ya shooting and fishing then it will be keeping pets in cages ,the list gos on till were munching grass

The incidents i read involving animals on that website area apauling!! Who in their right mind would shoot a cat!! it disgusts me! Peolple need to be taught that air rifles are not toys!

The other thing is someone got a fine for shooting a collard dove! these are legal quarry? and also another one got a fine for shooting a pigeon again legal quarry?

We need to stick together here one to prevent our sport being removed and two to rid our selves of the quite frankly twa!s that seem to think they are the dogs bollocks and can shoot anything they like let alone take their air rifles into public places. The uneducated users of air rifles need to be found and have their weapons removed.

The idea of a driving test sort of method is fairly good if it means the prats who aquire air rifles with no idea of the power and distructivity of such a weapon. A problem with this is they are far to easy to buy from a car boot sale or some from your dad from when "he was a boy"

This is the quotation copied from the BBC news site today

sale of airguns in Scotland could be brought in to stop firearms getting a "grip" on communities.

Justice Secretary Kenny McAskill has written to Home Secretary Jacqui Smith seeking permission for such a scheme to stop irresponsible air weapon use.

In the letter, he suggested that it could play an important part of a wider review of UK gun controls.

Ms Smith has previously rejected Mr McAskill's call for a gun laws review.

A firearms summit was held in Edinburgh last month which Ms Smith declined to attend saying that firearms legislation was reserved to Westminster.

The parents of toddler Andrew Morton, who was killed by an airgun pellet three years ago, were among those who went to the event hosted by Mr McAskill.

We must not and will not allow firearms to get a grip on our communities

Kenny McAskill

Justice secretary

He said there was a consensus on the need to urgently overhaul the current complex firearms legal framework, which is based on 40-year-old legislation.

Mr McAskill added: "Any reformed firearms regime must incorporate stronger controls on air weapons - given that they are used in around half of all firearms offences.

"While Westminster has refused to consider transferring legislative responsibility for firearms to Scotland, they should allow us to pilot such reforms if they are unwilling or unable to proceed themselves at this stage.

"This is not about radically different approaches either side of the border, but about working collectively to tackle the real concerns in our communities."

Mr McAskill wants an overhaul of the Firearms Act 1968 which would restrict sales of airguns and said Scottish Government officials were planning to meet their Irish counterparts to discuss how air weapons are controlled under their laws.

He said: "Clearly there are legitimate uses for firearms and we don't want to impede those.

"But further action must be taken to stop these weapons from falling into the wrong hands - as well as to tackle the mindset of those who carry them without any good reason.

"Quite simply, we must not and will not allow firearms to get a grip on our communities."

I personnaly think they have a very valid point. They say they do not want to inpend on legitimate uses of firearms. That in my opinion is good. they just want to pohibit them falling into the wrong hands. again this is good not only for the sake of illegal quarry but for the welfare of our own species. I personnaly would like to here how they are going to go about this and make them easily accesable to those of us who have a legitimate use.

Sorry to pour piss on all your fires, but no matter how many petitions you get or whatever form of action you take it won't matter(take a look at the hunting bill, how many petitioned marched etc that cause...still went through)...They've got there minds made up about air weapons,as far as controling air weapons goes, thats bollocks.....the only people it affects are the law abiding ones not the criminal fraternity...as usual

Go to any city in the UK and you can buy a real gun quite easily if you know were to look, even an average Joe could get one if he was determined....so much for the ban of handguns after the Dunblaine massacre!

Just another plot by the goverment for control of the little man, make criminals of everyone who owns an air weapon and not got it licensed...just another excuse to get more people on the DNA database(but thats another story)..

Thanks for reading, these are just my opinion...

Better start making your catapults now,as this is the only thing you maybe allowed till they ban them...

bugger! Its soo true! if someone wants it they can get it. Take crack cocaine for example that is illegal but that is probably easily accesable. Not only that but pistols in cities, half the thugs who own them definatly do not own a licence. WHAT DO WE DO WE ARE ONLY HUMAN!!!

top and bottom line is.........

if you are a resposible person and ALWAYS shoot within the law......what is the problem with a test or a licence.

as i have previously said.......licensing is preferable to a ban...!!!

cheers

This is true Sean, licencing is preferable to banning...but we all know even this doesn't work, plenty of unlicenced car drivers, firearms, televisions etc....all it does is makes it easier for the authorities to start somewere when they start banning things (after Dunblaine,it was all the legitimate gun owners who had to hand in the firearms, the ones all licenced...who payed to be members of gun clubs)or want to snoop...

Try buying a TV out of any shop, they ask for your name and address so they can inform the TV licencing people...

Which country in the world has the most CCTV cameras.....the UK.

They're all out to get us :whistling:

Good for you mate Thank god they are some people out there who can see the bigger picture. So lets say they get this law passed. What are people willing to give up after this. ?.Licence for a Lurcher, Terrier, Ferret. When will it end.Dont think for a moment thease prick are going to give up at air rilfles in Scotland. As i said in my last post they want the lot.It gets my back up when people on this site of all agree with them on anything about banning fieldsports. If we all cant stick together on THL. We will soon be a thing of the past.Becuase dont forget they want this site and others like it shut down. Some people cant see the woods for the trees. They call what we do bloodsport.YOU HAD BETTER BELEAVE.Thease f--kers want our sport. And if it comes to it our blood as well.atb. the fact of the matter is if there is going to be a ban.....IT WILL HAPPEN!!!!

very sad but true.......no amount of jumping up and down will stop it.

i dont want to lose any aspect of fieldsports, but fox hunting has gone and there are probably a lot more influential people following that than air gun sport. ( landed gentry, lords and ladies etc).

i know some hunts have said f**k it and hunted, regardless, and the police have looked on and found it difficult to make any arrests....simply because of the numbers present, if you said f**k it IF there is a ban on air guns, unless you are shooting with 50 or 60 mates you ARE going to get arrested and have the book thrown at you.

i will shout as loud as anybody to protect the sport, and any others.......and sign any petitions going.

all i am saying is we are powerless...........so it would be easier to try and compramise rarther than screaming and shouting and the powers that be thinking we are a bunch of uncontrolable yobs....that THEY would never trust with a gun.

all the best
