Came home from work last night, and the Mrs said the Lurcher was limping on his right paw. After inspecting his paw i came accross a what looks like a nail puncture wound between his pads. I put some antiseptic cream on the wound. Got up this morning and he is limping really bad. His paw has swollen up that he can hardly put his weight on it. :(:( I have bathed it in icy water which has taken the swelling down. Any advice would be appriciated if anyone has had a similar injury. Or is this a visit to the Vets?????? :signthankspin:

make sure theres nothing in it bath it a couple of times a day to keep it open so anything can drain out and keep it clean as you can be a bit of an awkward spot, keep im mind that if you cant sort it antibiotics might have to be used

I would bath it in salty water and get some antibiotics, had a similar thing happen with one of dogs when I was out good few years back, dog came back and had stood on a nail or spike, damaged his ligaments in his toe as well the toe was knocked up for good after that...if it gets infected it will start stinking in a couple of days, it can be hard to keep feet clean..

i agree, put it in warm salty water and that will kill the bacteria from the nail

Thanks for all the replys. Ended up going to the vets(best be on the safe side). She had a look at the wound but couldnt be sure if there was anything stuck inside. She has put the dog on 1weeks course of painkillers and antibiotics. Also she said to bath the wound in warm water to keep clean and open.

Just had a look at the dogs paw. Blood is oozing from somewhere? After having a closer look there is a small hole between his toes, i guess this is exit hole where the nail or sharp object came out. The swelling has went right down and he is able to put weight on it. Still limping but not as bad. He seems 100% better than he was yesterday. Only time will tell if he makes a full recovery. Hope so as he is only 10 months old.

Been back to the vets just to be on the safe side. She gave him another course of antibiotics. His wound has nearly cleared and there has been no major damage :good:
