adbirdy 14
Hello All, I have just got myself a cocker pup from very good working lines and as it is my first gundog I would like some opinions on a book that I could buy to help me with training it. All opinions gratefully received. Thanks in advance Ade Quote Link to post

4paws 0
Hi Ade This has been the best book we found for starting with our working cocker 7 months ago. " The Complete Gundog Training Manual By James Douglas " It is on Amazon for £14. link to amazon books The cocker is my partners dog, and is training up very good so he also decided to go to some field trial classes with him too. 4paws Quote Link to post

Hi v-max no need to be sorry there is no bubble to burst. Ade asked for "All opinions gratefully received" I didn`t know James Douglas was a twat! I didn`t claim to be an expert on training gundog books or gundogs. it was just this one was helpful for us in the beginning. I will also have a look for the book you recommended. adbirdy 14
Hi All, Bit of an update Got myself a bit of a bargain off evil bay, 'Training Spaniels' by Joe Irving seems a bit old fashioned but still very good common sense training advice indeed. I paid £6 including post for it and saw it at the Welsh Game Fair last week for £17!!! Ade Quote Link to post

Ade Old fashioned!!! There isn't alot new in dog training !!! That may have come across wrongly, I meant the style of writing is slightly old fashioned. Even a complete novice like me realises that nothing much changes in dog training!! As I said though it seems like a really good book containing really good advice and would recommend it to others. Ade Quote Link to post
